May 24, 2005 - Barrie, ON On April 15, 2005, Coles of Little Feet Charities www.littlefeetcharities.com commenced a national walk from Halifax, NS to Vancouver, BC to raise funds and awareness for Autism. Currently in New Brunswick and shouldering a 55lb bag of cement every step of the 6,100 kilometre trek, he is truly " Carrying the Load for Children " with Autism across Canada! " I have a son with Asperger's Syndrome, an autistic condition, and I was just inspired to find about more about Autism, " said. " What I started finding out was that (my son's) condition is pretty mild but there are tens of thousands of families in Canada affected by Autism. Millions of people around the world have Autism and it's getting worse every year. " Distributed by The Don’t Stand Alone Foundation for Children With Autism, all proceeds raised will be distributed to families with children with Autism across Canada, so that they may obtain treatment that may not be available to them through existing programs. Families can obtain an application by contacting the foundation directly with their request. " I am " Carrying the Load for Children " and asking that every Canadian donate $1 to generate a $30 million dollar legacy for families living with Autism to offer financial assistance in helping them provide their children with therapy that works. " Donations can be made at any Scotia Bank branch across Canada to acct.# 601520142522. Cheques can be sent to The Don’t Stand Alone Foundation, 36 Whitehorn Cres., Barrie, Ontario L4N 8E4. Please make all cheques payable to the D.S.A. Foundation. Tax receipts will be issued to those including a name and address with their donation. Corporate sponsorship is appreciated and will be acknowledged with appropriate logos and links on the Little Feet Charities web site. According to the Autism Society of Canada, there are over 190,000 individuals with ASDs in Canada and it is estimated that one in every 200 children is born with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Most effective treatments for Autism are not covered by any medical plan. Early Intervention initiatives only extend to children under the age of 6. Families of autistic children often cannot afford the approximately $60,000 per year cost required to effectively treat their children’s condition. - 30 - For more information please contact: Coles, Little Feet Charities, (604) 613-3090 (on the road) Donna Currie, Don’t Stand Alone, Director (705) 721-8607 Vogels, Don’t Stand Alone, Director (705) 424-4527 Senatore, Don’t Stand Alone, Media Relations (705) 733-7510 --- Mom to , 8 years old, PDD/ASD, SID
