Guest guest
I have a 14-y-old son with autism. He has had intervention since two, but we did not know to do what is out there now, unfortunately. I put him on the Feingold diet at six. He has been seeing a DAN dr. since 7, and is casein-free, gluten-free since then. As soon as I knew to do so, we began chelation, but he was nine by then. He has made tremendous progress, and is doing seventh grade work. However, he has some problem behaviors, and I would like to set up a good ABA program. My husband is retiring in June. We can then go anywhere and do whatever needs to be done. My question is where is the best place to go. Where is the best place in the U.S. to do ABA? Do they have an outreach program, so I can start now? What would be your dream therapy for your child? The following is what we have done so far: Speech Therapy- 11 years+, a couple of breaks Oral Motor Therapy-highly recommend it Auditory Integration-Digital Auditory Aerobics-twice, first time helped more FastForWord I and II-Fantastic results on I, able to follow directions, got overstimulated on II O.T. with Sensory Integration-Fantastic! How Does Your Engine Run?-short-term, helped a little Interactive Metronome-helped with " tic " , slapping on chest, may do repeat Rhythmic Entrainment-no help, couldn't finish Therapeutic Listening-got overstimulated, couldn't finish, but was doing a new kind of chelation at the same time Hippotherapy-twice, a little sensory help Bioset Allergy Elimination-can eat a greater variety of foods now, still problems probably from corn and soy " Modified " ABA-too slow, capable of much more Social Skills groups-too brief over summer, problem finding kids to do therapy with him He still has problems with his hearing. Have any of you done Sensory Learning? How about the Son Rise Program? RDI? How do I know if I want Lovaas-style therapy, discrete trials, Carbone method? What is the difference in approach in all of this? I have to address his sensory issues along with ABA. Please give this some thought. Any help will certainly be appreciated. The big problem I am having now is finding ABA therapists and kids for social. I hope to hear from some of you. Thanks. floarise3@...
