Guest guest
Don't miss the FREE sign language workshop being presented by DeAnne D. Salzer, MS, CCC-SLP this Sunday from 6:30-9:00 at Gwynedd Mercy College! To print handouts, go to www.poac.net/pa Workshop description: There is convincing evidence that sign language acquisition, with spoken words accompanying sign, may lead to vocalizations with some previously non-vocal children. Also, by providing a system for the child to ask for the things they want may help to reduce many behavioral problems that are often associated with children with autism. The focus of this presentation will be teaching sign language. Participants will be provided with a description, rational, and practical application of the methods and teaching procedures used to teach functional communication and help develop vocalizations. In addition, the presenters will describe other behavioral methods that have been shown to increase the likelihood of the development of vocal behavior.
