A headache is not a problem, it is merely a headache.

However, you could have a story about a headache that would cause you

to feel like the headache is a problem.

If one has a headache, broken leg, heart attack, cancer, etc, etc,

these are simply what is. The Work is not about changing What Is, it

is about understanding our thinking about what is that may be

confused and stressful.

Hi Steve

So, you are saying that...

I would do the work on my headache.

I will discover that:

" A headache is not a problem, it is merely a headache " .

And...

I wouldn't be bothered with the headache pain?

Yes or NO?

Because pain is the alarm clock that

push us to do the work

What do you think?

You asked " Yes or No? "

I answer with " I don't know, you would have to ask you. "

I have no idea what " you " would be left with?

If you ask you and you respond with Yes, the headache pain would

bother me and that is a problem. Then you can do The Work on " I am

upset because of the headache pain. "

My understanding is that " All pain is mental. " For me, any feeling

is merely the result of my thinking. I stick my hand in a fire and I

tell myself a story that it will hurt. Voila, I feel a sensation

that I name " pain " . For me, pain occurs but with The Work, suffering

about that pain is optional " .

What I mean by that is that as long as I am identifying myself as a

physical body, I am buying into the beliefs that that body can be

hurt and then physical pain will sometimes appear to be " What Is " ;

however, my arguing with that pain can cause me mental anguish and

suffering. By doing The Work on this mental suffering and anguish, I

am left only as this body with the headache pain, but not suffering

on top of the headache pain.

Gotta go,

Steve D.

I think the point is not that you don't really have a broken arm or a headache

or diabetes or the complications of polio (clearly you do), but that it is

problem.

Life seems to work better when we have challenges, not problems; when we

simply accept and bear these things rather than agonizing over them and

wishing they were different.

As I understand the Work, it's about helping us get to the place where we can

accept what's happened and even why it is good and why it is necessary.
