A statement that was made to me recently makes no sense. I would love to have some feedback.

Here it is:

It takes about a year for a woman's hormone levels to return to normal after she has had an abortion, and so she is not able to fully enter into the grieving process before a year.

What would be the medical reason for this, and can anyone steer me towards any studies to look at?

I took her training too, years ago. She mentioned a study that indicated that there are some type of cells of the aborted fetus that remain in the mother for the rest of her life. Almost a permanent genetic marker that the child was there once. I've never been able to find this study. Does this make sense to anyone?Rhonda Horner-Bohaty wrote:

who made the statement, and which hormones were they speaking about? Brain hormones, supposedly, as ovulation usually returns no later than 6 weeks..

She spoke on the biophysiology of sex at the Couple to Couple League

Convention (http://convention2004.ccli.org) we gave here in the Chicago

area this past summer. I thought her talk was the most intriguing of

the conference.

I contacted Vicki Thorn from Project

She said that she has not seen any research and cannot find any research that shows that women have this big hormonal shift around the due date, but that it is anecdotal information coming from women in Canada. And she also said their doctors are telling them this.

I do not understand, if it is purely anecdotal that a protocal for care for post-abortive can be set on this information. I am trying to understand, but the NFP practitioner in me cannot find the logic in this.

I understand the stem cells being present after a woman becomes pregnant, but it is the hormonal surge theory I am not able to grasp.

Any suggestions? I also coordinate our Project program. I really need some advice here.

I am questioning the entire concept of a

big hormonal shift? Could it be

these words are being used loosely to describe feelings and behavior, which are

being attributed to hormones?
