Guest guest
If he will allow it, you could use cotton in his ears to muffle the noise. The " tickle " of the clippers might be a problem though. It really helped our son sit for haircuts after he gave dad one with the clippers. (Hubby wears a burr anyway!) I think seeing what they did and feeling/doing it himself is what helped. No I am trying to find a place to have it done...he completely breaks down if he hears the sound of clippers or a hair dryer. I was thinking about making him the first appointment of the day somewhere but I just moved to Arlington and wanted to know if anyone knows of a really kid friendly place??? Thanks
Guest guest
Hi, We are in Arlington and we just took our son for his first salon haircut. We have been cutting it ourselves after he goes to sleep until now. We took him to Kazaams Kuts For Kids. It is just east of on Arkansas. At 810 W Arkansas Ln, Arlington, TX 76013, (817) 261- 1233. The lady was really great. They had TVs and video games and he got to sit on a rocket ship. It is an indivually owned place I think. So, if the Cool Cuts doesn't work out, you have another option. I gave him Starbursts to eat during the haircut. They take a while to eat, so they are good distractions. I hope that helps. Feel free to send me a message or e-mail. > > Hello Everyone, > I have finally talked my husband into letting me have my son's hair cut > (after someone told hime what a cute daughter he has). Guest guest
I want to share our haircut challenge and now success with you.....our son always hated haircuts too. We would take him to " kid " salons and just have them do scissor cuts.......we had to always hold him in our laps and just get done what they could. He sometimes let my husband use scissors on his hair at home......he eventually was able to tolerate this all on his own. We would always ask about using clippers and he definitely said " no " . So, we went for years with scissor only haircuts which were just fine. WE always told the hair stylist on the side about his autism and they usually were pretty understanding. We also tried to go when it was not as busy. My husband began using clippers on his own hair at home and having watch him. Just a few months ago, dad got his clippers out and took baby steps in getting to hold the clippers (off), and eventually holding them (on) and eventually letting dad hold the clippers on 's head (off) and then he let dad use the clippers to cut some of the bottom of his hair........dad gets to " roar " like a lion at things he is scared of, in this case clippers, and he thinks it's funny and it seemed to reduce his fear..........now only months later, will let the ladies at cool cuts for kids use clippers........we rewarded his first visit and use of clippers to a toy at the toy store. WE made a big deal of it and told him how brave he was and how excited and proud of him we were.............he is now 6 1/2, but there is hope. we never imagined we'd get to this point, but babysteps worked........ we also tried not to " punish " him, but tried to understand how scary and unnerving it was to him........best of luck.. hang in there...social stories might be helpful too....maybe take real pictures of the haircut place, etc and make a book. > > Hello Everyone, > I have finally talked my husband into letting me have my son's hair cut > (after someone told hime what a cute daughter he has). Guest guest
We have gone to Cool Cuts for Kids for about 3 years now. They actually tell me all the time that about 1/3 of their clients (at the Louetta location in Spring) are Autistic children. The buzz cutters are a little much for my son, but he's had so much ear trama that that's the reason he dosen't like them....just around his ears. Guest guest
I have always trimmed my son's hair on the counter top, while he played with toys. I never said " cut " . He freaked the one time we took him to the salon. So when it was time for his twin and my younger son to get hair cuts, we went to the kids salon. I told him, the haircut was NOT for him so he would not freak out. He watched them have all that fun, and then I had to drag him out kicking and screaming because he DIDN'T get a hair cut! So we went back in and he was PERFECT. ~Only by the Grace of God Crystal www.thedelightedchild.com www.neverwalkalone.net By perseverance the snail reached the ark. Guest guest
hi all, i still cut my son's hair myself. he has only been to a barber's shop once in his life. he is almost 7 now. but he is still very scared of any kind of noise let alone an electronic clipper or whatever you call it. i can't use the vacum when he is home. we vacum our house when he is not home. anyway, i have been cutting my son's hair myself and it comes out different everytime. sometimes it's ok but most of the time, his hair will look patchy. kinda funny and cute at the same time. his teachers think that i do a good job. for the most part, he is very ticklish, so he keeps giggling and starts to bend his neck and it's actually a little dangerous. but i am thinking of taking him to a barber's shop one of these days. > > > > Hello Everyone, > > I have finally talked my husband into letting me have my son's hair > cut > > (after someone told hime what a cute daughter he has).
