I've felt awkward posting about all these non-dairy topics, but I'm just responding to other people's posts and I don't want to ignore them if I have some thoughts to share. I'd prefer to keep non-dairy on native-nutrition where the discussion would be better. This list is a great idea though, because raw dairy is such a hugely important topic. Guest guest
Hey Mike, I don't think she's referring to the calcium/protein/bones posts though. That certainly has to do with raw dairy. Guest guest
Agree 100%. There's " native-nutrition " , " beyondprice " , and the new one Sara started, " discussingnt " for more general nutrition stuff, which is off-topic here. There's nothing wrong with going on a tangent, but perhaps most tangents should be kept offlist (private e-mail between two, or posted to one of the above groups). Guest guest
But one thing I want to stress is that this chat list IS after all, about a food product and that can have some nutritional topics in it. There's bound to be some overlap between Native Nutrition and Nourishing Traditions topics. It doesn't bother me at all. Saying this affectionately, don't worry Belinda, we're all grumpy sometimes. ;-) Tom wrote: > Agree 100%. > > There's " native-nutrition " , " beyondprice " , and the new one Sara > started, " discussingnt " for more general nutrition stuff, which is > off-topic here. Guest guest
I agree with Tom and Belinda. I don't have a problem with occasional off topic posts, but I joined this board to find out about raw dairy, FIND raw dairy, and understand the issues around raw dairy. From the getgo, Janet asked for our help. I don't want to lose focus on that. I belong to 7 other boards that wander all over the nutrition terrain, from BARF (Bones and Raw Food - for dogs) to Kefir, coconut oil, and NT. So, for me it becomes redundant on this board. Kefir belongs here, as do discussions about calcium absorption. Maybe osteoporosis, too. But I don't want to lose focus on making raw dairy available, across the country. You lucky pips that have raw dairy should not become complacent. Most raw dairy farmers risk their livelihood for you. Until they are safe, none of us are. Let's welcome all comers, get to know each other, but stay on track. -Blair ('pip' is a loving term, btw... Has lots of definitions, but the one I use is Latin. It's " primus inter pares " which translates to " first among equals " ...) > Agree 100%. > > There's " native-nutrition " , " beyondprice " , and the new one Sara > started, " discussingnt " for more general nutrition stuff, which is > off-topic here. Guest guest
Good comments, Blair. I especially like the comment below. It's true, we must not become complacent! And yay Latin! Didn't know " primus inter pares " . Tom > You lucky pips that have > raw dairy should not become complacent. Most raw dairy farmers risk > their livelihood for you. Guest guest
I think you are on the right track and think there is great benefit in all discussions of health and nutrition. Leviticus in regards to Milk & Meat I think has some strong merit.
Guest guest
Allow me to clarify this once and for all. The description created by Janet herself in the yahoo group description of this group is as follows: Welcome to Raw Dairy! Here we will explore the health benefits of consuming raw dairy products (Milk, Buttermilk, Yogurt, Kefir, Butter. If you're a farmer looking for a way to make raw dairy products available to the public, or if you're a consumer looking for raw dairy products, this is a common meeting place for all. The only thing that seems to be mentioned here is health benefits of raw dairy products, and then also people meeting one another, farmers and consumers. That being said, there is bound to be nutrition overlap when you mention the "health benefits" of raw dairy products. If you don't like it so be it (feeling a bit grumpy myself this morning) but that's how it is. It is also a place to get to know one another and ask about each other--a common meeting place for all. It isn't totally about the Brunners alsothough we do care, and want to help them. It isn't totally about politics, although that enters into things when we discuss raw dairy, since we are trying to help make it legal. Its about the things mentioned in the description. That can be very broad. Anytime you are in doubt, go back and read this description of the chat group. But may I also just interject that we should be merciful to each other if someone slips up. I try to be. We're just human after all. :-)
Guest guest
I understnd you grump! He He! I have found though, that raw milk and other natural nutritional issues come up for me at least. I am certainly not the moderator and I try to keep on subject but milk is such a narrow subject.
