Re: Remove Previous Content from Your Messages

Ok I like an edited message as well. It's neat and tidy etc...

When I post though, I never leave things in that " I " don't find totally

relevant to my post. I'm also aware that if you cut all the message out

and answer by just a comment, it is very, very, difficult to understand

if you haven't logged on for a bit and have forgotten what the original

question or comment was.

That's why I like to leave a snippet of the post i'm replying to in my

reply.

So often i've read a reply and thought, " what on earth? " (now I know

some seem to think that about most of my posts all the time. It must be

my accent.) :-) Because all the previous post has gone.

If I leave a snip of a post in my letters it's for a purpose. It's for

continuity. And it gives me a feeling i'm actually talking to the person.

If it's removed, and the tone of my letter is changed by that removal,

then I feel it's not my letter any more and that makes me feel a bit

invaded.

Having said that, and having read your regular posts on posting rules.

I feel that by leaving in snips as I do does not impinge on these rules

and thus request that, unless they do, they be left as i write them in full.

As i said, I carefully, take out, and leave in snips, it's not through

any slackness on my part previous posters words might be left in.

Yes i do this. That's why I feel invaded when I post something and it

doesn't end up looking exactly like I typed it.

Can you see my point?

Thank you too,

Yep, I agree. I loose track Sam too. And I'm not blind, I find it's also

time consuming to try and nut out what was in the original post they are

replying to. I either sit there and try, or I just delete it, and i'd

rather not do that.

But what Ray was saying is quite ok, you can leave in what's important

to your reply so we can understand it when we get to read it.

He just doesn't want all of it left in when that's totally unnecessary.

And that I reckon is fair enough ay. My request is that posts that have

followed those rules don't get cut even further. I reckon that's

reasonable. I'm leaving all yours in because I am answering every point

you made.

You guessed it, Sharon. ;-)

Well I wasn't going to say anything either but....what you say above about

having things to keep track of, etc. may be true but... you only have to do

this once for your message...the moderators have to do it for every message

sent! They not only have lives as well but they are in pain as tool.

I think it is nice that we have such a great list and great moderators that

do their best here (for nothing by the way) and I think we should all do our

best to help them and be thankful for what they do.

I for one applaud the moderators for a great clean list!!!

Thanks

Ann - I can't disagree with anything you've said - and to be honest I do

feel they've done a very good job. I also belong to a usernet group and

it's just a madhouse there (unmoderated). Guess I didn't think about that

part of the job.

I stand corrected - and thanks for pointing that out!

With regard to snipping messages - I can fully understand what a royal pain it

must be to have to go through each and every e-mail to get to the part that's

been referred to in the latest post. I just put myself in the moderators' shoes

and I can see where it would be a big job and pretty darn tedious as well. I

for one am extremely guilty of not snipping and the main reason is that I have

so much trouble remembering anything and the problem cited here is just one of

the many things I forget to do. I forget where I put things, the names of

people I know, etc. and if I don't make lists everyday I'm sunk. I expect it's

the combination of pain med side effects, my pituitary disease, and just plain

being a hugely old person that is causing my lousy memory.

I have now put a post-it note on my computer screen instructing myself to snip

the sentence I'm referring to in my own message and I'm hoping this idea will

work. I benefit so much from this forum that I don't want to mess things up in

any way.
