Hello!

I have been lurking without posting for a number of years, mostly because my

life has changed dramatically-for the best, mostly, but my health is still

deteriorating and I participated in the worst game of musical doctors in

history.

It appears my medical luck has changed dramatically lately. I finally, about 2

years ago, found an internist who would monitor and prescribe me the opiates and

other meds I needed to start living again. Then, I had a couple more sleep

studies done recently with a new practice, and what a difference! This Doctor

showed me the proof that my sleep architecture is that of someone with severe

fibromyalgia and possibly CFS/ME, and he put me on Nuvigil and we are in the

process of getting me on Xyrem. I must admit, I was nervous about the Nuvigil,

because my psychiatrist was ADAMANT that it is a dangerous drug and I was not to

take it, but my PC and Sleep Doc said to give it a trial-and my life couldn't

have changed faster if a tornado had picked up my house and landed me in OZ.

I have been feeling wonderful for the 3 days of the trial so far-I mean almost

completely pain free. I am a bit stiff and sore when I get up in the morning,

but about an hour after I take the Nuvigil, I am very nearly my old self again.

I cannot wait to see what happens when I am sleeping properly on the Xyrem, if

it works as well as expected, I may get my life back.

The down side is that I will have to drop out of my part-time classes and

part-time work at the college in order to adjust to the Xyrem, but I am

perfectly willing to do so. If this doesn't work, my next step is applying for

disability, because even at 12 hrs a week, I haven't been able to work a full

pay period in 2 semesters, and my grades were slipping. Thankfully, my husband

has been a rock, helping me stay organized and focused, even reading me the

material in the evening after work because my eyes wont focus. He is such a

prince!

Glad to be back!
