Guest guest
Hello, My name is Amy Sexton. I have a B.S. in Speech Pathology, a M.Ed. and a BCBA. I have worked in many scool setting as well as teacher in a communications classroom. For the last two years I have enjoyed working one on one with children with autism privately. I am now consulting but I am a teacher at heart. There is a slight difference in the way I work. Most consultants come to meetings and plan an write programs for other tutors to implement. I meet with the children I see every week and have a full therapy session except on meeting weeks. I prefere this schedule because I feel that I can keep the child's program going at optimal speeds. One reason time can be lost is because to much time can be spent relaying information to someone who has not spent time with the child. Also, many times a child may not respond to a new program exactly the way a consultant plans and a therapist may not know how to make small changes to the program. Again, time will be waisted in waiting to talk to the consultant it may even take until the next meeting. I feel that children's early years are precious when it comes to learning language. I am extremely passionate and idealistic about my chosen field and am always searching for the most effective way to teach children. Amy Sexton M.Ed.
