Guest guest
Hi Tracey, Welcome to our group. I hope you will find the same compassion and thoughtfulness as well as the wealth of information from our members that I have found. I have been a member for many years. As for " getting well " , here are some of my thoughts. Just the diagnosis of chronic pain in it's self means this is for the duration for me. I have had pain for well over 3/4 of my life now. It will never go away. In my way of thinking that means that getting well or the pain going away will not happen for me. Being " well " for me is a state of mind. My pain will change from day to day but will always be there, but my state of mind is in my control. Some days are better than others for both my mind and pain. The medication I use to help combat the pain helps me to live as normal a life as I'm able to. Without medication I wouldn't be able to function as I do now. So for me " wellness " isn't about my body but how I look at my life. You are lucky that the medication you use works as well as it does. Why is it that it will run out? Is it your decision to not refill it? Many of us go off our medication to give our bodies a rest and also to see how new medications will affect us. I hope that you don't rule out the use of medications in the future if you need them. There are many different means of releiving pain and massage is one I use also. I'm looking at going to a new accupuncturist next week and hope for good results. Again welcome! Kathleen in Calif.
Guest guest
I would like to say hi. My name is . I haven't posted because I'm not sure where I should be. I have Fibromyalgia and Cfids. Along with RT3 and adrenal issues. I have 3.5 times as much RT3 as T3. I also have adrenal fatigue (aldosterone) which my previous doctor missed because all she was looking at was my cortisol levels. I am 4 months into treatment and on 120mg Armour, .1mg of Florinef and several supplements. Just now starting to feel little better. I do have a question. My doctor says that the thyroid can be retrained in some cases to make the correct amounts of T3 after being on Armour for a year or more. Anyone heard that before? I had new tests run this week to check all levels again and to see if I might need support for cortisol levels now. Overall, I really like my doctor. She is very open to trying anything that might help. She has adjusted my armour upon request. We'll see how she reacts to the new test results. Thanks for letting me lurk. I have learned a lot. Guest guest
, I am so sorry to hear how the last two months of your life has been spent worrying about your family and now yourself too. I had my thyroid removed in November 2007. My family has a history of thyroid problems for years too. A good website to visit that addresses thyroid problems in laymans terms is Dr. Andres R Rosendahl’s. It is: www.thyroidcancer.com Dr. Rosendahl was so wonderful before and during my surgery. I was able to call and ask him so many questions before and afterwards. His website should help give you some peace. Another great website is the New York Thyroid Center. It has a list of questions to ask a surgeon. It is: http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/dept/thyroid/index.html There is an endocrinologist here in the Denton area that uses Thyrogen before and during RAI so that you do not have to go through “hypo hell” during the whole process. Let me know if you need it and I’ll get you his name. I had an almost 3 year old and 17 month old when I had my thyroid removed and knew that if it was papillary or follicular I would live, live, live to watch them grow up. I was prepared for RAI too and know that scans/blood work/suppressed TSH over the years should keep me around for a very long time. You are such a wise woman to have yourself and the rest of your family checked. Thyroid cancer for the most part is very treatable it’s just the snafu afterwards of finding that magic thyroid hormone dosage that gets you back to feeling great. It has taken me just over a year to get my thyroid levels and that part of my body back were it should be. I’ve got some work to do in regards to my adrenals but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Things I learned after my TT: Get lab work done at the 4 week mark so you don’t go hypo. Call Doctor’s office at the first sign of hypothyroid symptoms Use not only Vitamin E on scar but sunscreen too. Keep on top of Calcium levels. Look into Armour. I was on T4 only before and just after, felt best on combo of Armour and Synthroid Allow for two weeks to recover. (I took a train trip on day 10, opps over did it). I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Let me know if you have any other questions, Penny From: Texas_Thyroid_Groups [mailto:Texas_Thyroid_Groups ] On Behalf Of dogsbestfriend27 Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 5:41 PM To: Texas_Thyroid_Groups Subject: New to Group Hi, my name is . In Dec. 08, my son called and said that he has thyroid cancer. He is 31 years old. He had a 9cm mass and has had his thyroid removed, did the radiation treatment, then the scan. They said that he was stage 1, papillary and follicular. I am not understanding any of the terms. It's like a foreign language to me. I am worried about him. In the 80's the doctor found a nodule in my thyroid. It was biopsied and found that it was benign. Said that if it ever bothered me, to let him know. I have hardly had any doctor feel my neck on a routine yearly exam. So thought I better go and see if it has gotten bigger. My doctor sent me to have an ultrasound done. I go see my doctor on Feb. 3, and she said that they found more. Two on the right side, 1.3 and 1.5 cm. One those came back as cancer. On the left side they see multiples, but really little. It's the papillary. I am scheduled for surgery on Feb. 27th. The Dr. was able to get me in sooner than April as originally planned. Hmmm, maybe it was the Texas Aggie shirt I was wearing! I am scared. I am afraid to break down. The receptionist at his office said this is why they are going to do it this month to ease my mind about it. I think this is why I want to sleep alot right now. It's not that I am really tired. I don't know what questions to ask, and the more I read on the internet, and the yahoogroup makes me more scared about it. I just want it to go away. My reg. doctor said that my thyroid count was 5.280. It was like 5.6 back in June, but no one said to have it rechecked. So anyway, I am on the synthroid-50cgm. Been on it for almost 5 weeks now. Now my mom has gotten her ultrasound and they have found nodules, and she sees another doctor later this week. My daughter will be having hers checked by ultrasound too soon. I don't even know what stage it is. I forgot to ask him when I saw him last week. Or do they tell you after surgery? I train dogs for a living, so hopefully this will not slow me down. I know I have to take it easy after surgery for maybe a week? I am trying to schedule everyone in before next weeks surgery. I have a busy week of. ville, TX
Guest guest
Penny, thank you so much for your reply. I bookmarked the links and tomorrow I will look at them. I am so tempted now, but it would mean staying up all night reading it! With every ache or pain, weird anything, I am so afraid that the cancer is all over my body. I don't know how long it takes for something to grow to be 1.5cm. I have lots of reading to do in such short time! I have Dr. Bradley MD and Dr. Braumhall is going to be with him when they do the surgery. Then they said that I will see Dr. Hawk. Does anyone know of them? My reg. doctor referred me to them. ville, TX
Guest guest
1.5 cm is not a huge nodule. And hypothyroidism often causes aches and pains. With a TSH around 5, you have probably been hypothyroid for some time. I will send an inquiry about the docs to whom you have been referred. >> Penny, thank you so much for your reply. Guest guest
I am going to be such a basket case by the time I have surgery. Mom is on her way to Plano to see a doctor. My daughter is a RN, so she will be asking questions. > > > > Penny, thank you so much for your reply. I bookmarked the links and > > tomorrow I will look at them. Guest guest
Thanks Karla....All of this is so much to learn, son not asking questions as much as I want is frustrating. Mom is at the doctor's office now about her thyroid. I don't know how good my doctors are. One has only done it for less than 2 years. > > > > > > > > Penny, thank you so much for your reply.
