Guest guest
Hi I take MS Contin which is the slow release version of Oxycontin 3x's per day. I was taking 30mg in the am and 30 mg at night but found that I was not getting as good a result as I felt I should have. So after talking to my Doc I am now taking an additional 15mg around 4pm and this has helped a lot. Be Well ...
Guest guest
Hi , I have extreme chronic back pain and my doctor will only prescribe vicodin which does not help my pain at all. I was wondering what type of ailment you have that you can get MS Oxy prescribed for you. I use to live in California and it was prescribed for me, now I live in Missouri and doctors are very cautious of drug abusers, so they are leary to prescribe it. I was curious to know. Thanks, Ed

I'm not sure how it would work if you took your first one then waited 6 hours for a second then 6 hours for a 3rd, then you wait 12 hours for your 4th/1st to start it all over again. I'd be asking a pharmacist because they understand the structures of half life of the tablets more than anyone. You see they wax and wane in definite patterns and taking tablets inbetween can negate the effect. So ask your pharmacist and good luck. Sharon. in Australia. Did you find that this interfered with your waking hours? I have trouble with staying tuned in as it were on just 30 mg BD. (twice daily) I'd be interested to hear what you say, because i'm finding the pain is not controlled very well, but the MScontin I take spins me out a bit. Guest guest
Hi Ed I have suffered from chronic lower back and lower body pain for about 13 years now. I had three surgeries and a spinal fusion before I had to stop working. I never wanted to have to take something as strong and addictive as MS Contin but about a year ago I could no longer take it. All the years before that I switched from one pain med to another and none were really effective. Now as time has gone by the pain has become more severe in that time and I needed to do something to improve the quality of life even a little. I wish you luck. Be Well ... Guest guest
Hi Sharon Whenever I start taking any type of medication especially a pain med I give my body about 3 - 4 weeks to adjust. For me adding the additional 15 mg in the afternoon gives me a little more energy most days as it helps fight the pain. Sometimes people don't realize and I am not saying this you that the pain is what makes you so tired and worn down. So now when it is time for my nighttime dose I am not feeling as bad as I would if I had not taken the 15 mg in the afternoon. Funny that I am writing this now as I am coming off a really bad pain spell. I have been just about totally bed ridden for the last four days manly due to the weather and my back just calling out for rest. Today is a little better and I hope tomorrow will be better than today. Please visit my web site, you may find something of interest. Guest guest
Ed, I just wanted to comment on post. " What kind of ailment does your doctor prescribe MS Oxy for? " Chronic pain is chronic pain. We all have various different components that make up chronic pain, and we all have a variety of medications and treatments to help our problems. I don't know of a particular ailment that goes hand in hand with a particular drug. I too have severe chronic spinal pain and have been given a variety of medications. Some have worked and others haven't. It's true that some areas of this country seem to be harder to get proper treatment and medications than others. I think this is more a problem of misinformation and fear. I hope you find some form of help for your pain. I know how awful spinal pain is. Kathleen in Calif. Guest guest
I'm taking 80mg 2x per day myself with Lortab 10/650 for breakthrough pain. I'm still having pain though. I'm going to let my doctor know this time around that I'm still in pain but I really doubt he will do an increase or change me to anything else. I want to ask if the pump might be an option for me and see what he has to say about it. It gets so tiring having to worry over informing the doctor that I'm still hurting and being afraid he will just say he can't do anything else for me. Such is our life huh? Is that as in full pain control benefit? > For me adding the additional 15 mg in the afternoon gives me a little > more energy most days as it helps fight the pain. I don't feel lethargic. I just want to shut my eyes when ever I stop to read or sit to listen to someone, and on longish drives. Eeek! I also get these little jerks in my body when I get that cross eyed feeling as well. But as soon as I get up and move about i'm right back to normal. ... Hang on.......... I've just thought of summat.....maybe the oxygen saturation in my body isn't that tip top due to the morph... oh yeah der... and that would explain why when I start to move about I feel better and when I stop i'm falling over asleep. I had my O2 saturation's done in hospital and they were low, I just brushed it off and said I feel fine.. " Light bulb going off in my head now! " The morph reduces my O2 sats and that's why I get dozy when I stop! O.k. diagnosis over now. Question answered. :-) Gee thanks for your help! > Funny that I am writing this now as I am coming off a really bad pain > spell. owww big pat on the back for sympathy. Guest guest
Hi I really don't think I will ever have full pain control, I do dream about it but in reality do not foresee it. When I said I allow 3 - 4 weeks for my body to adjust to a new medication I mean all medication. Most medications come with at least a few side effects, hopefully mild and after 4 weeks if I am still experiencing them I consul my doctor. Now if there is any serious side effects I call my doctor immediately. This is not to say that for example a pain medication will work to control my pain but that can take months to find out if it works better or worse than what I had been taking. There is much experimenting when it comes to pain medication because we are all different. I know many people that use, lets say Neurontin and say they get excellent results. I was on it for 18 months and I never did get the results that I was looking for and I also gained 35 lbs in the process. So be patient and if your working with a good medical team you will find what works best for you. Be Well ...
Guest guest
Thanks , I've never thought methadone as being an option, it's used so commonly here for heroin addicts. But everyone seems to have something good to say about it. I will be very open minded now about it. I've been taking MS contin for 12 months now. After a severe acute pain episode that sent me to casualty via ambulance. Which was only controlled by a morph IV injection. I've been on it ever since. Was in so much persistent back pain all I could do was cry unwillingly until the does doubled in March (30 mg) and I can't get a clear straight head at all. I just accepted this side effect but this group certainly has opened up my mind to try other types and at different times too.
