Guest guest
Don't even look at the endos. Get out your provider directory and call every primary care provider (internist, GP, FP) on your plan and ask. DOs are a better bet than MDs. The other possibility is to go out of network for thyroid only. Once your dose is regulated, you only need to see the doc once or twice a year. >> Has any one seen Dr Padma Horvit in Austin? Her nurse on the phone says > she(the Doc) dosent like Armour, that the Dr thinks it is not > consistant. I cant find any Doc on my Humana Choice PPO Medicare > Advantage Plan list to see that likes Armour, help. Any Docs y'all know > in Austin area? I already checked our data base here.> THX, Pamela>
Guest guest
Hi Pamela, Dr. Horvit is my endo that I go to once a year and she only tests for TSH. She will not Rx Armour for me as she believes that natural is not always the best. Good luck if you want to press her for it. I go to a regular doctor for help with my thyroid but am currently on Synthroid. I don't care what the treatment is as long as docs test for TSH, FT3, and FT4. If one type of thyroid treatment doesn't work, I believe that docs should be open minded enough to trial something else even if the patient wants to go the non-synthetic route, such as Armour. I don't know what is going on with these Austin docs but they go ahead and test the TSH, FT3, and FT4 and then tell me on my subsequent visit that they'll only test TSH as they think it's enough. So, I get these high hopes at first b/c they give me this whole dissertation on how important it is to test the frees and then forget about it like it never happened on later visits. Dr. Wiseman and Shook (P.A.C - under Dr. lin in your HMO) gave me high hopes and Rx Armour if you ask for it. However, they ended up telling me to test for TSH later. Shook is the better of the two and you may like her. She is on top of the T3 and Iodine schools of thought. Dr. Wiseman is a really sweet doc. If you see any of them, just know that you may have to push for the FTs in case they forget. Good luck! Tina
