Oh Helen,

You are quite welcome! You're right, a lot of what we do every day depends on other people and taking their word for it. It would be too time consuming otherwise, checking it out.

Yesterday when talking with my sister about raw milk, I made clear what I meant when I referred to raw milk- clean milk handled properly from healthy cows- I didn't assume she was on the same page as me when I mentioned real milk. So the conversation went better than I expected it would! She is anxious now to see that brochure on unprocessed milk I mentioned (Sally Rademacher's product).

I am more anxious now to try some real goat's milk- probably in the spring time, when driving is better.

Have you contacted the WAPF chapter in England? There are at least two sources over there, if memory serves right. But I assume you already have checked them all out to no avail.

Re: Re: Milk criteria

Sara, thanks so much for your email.-------------->>>That jogged me to explain to her how the farm is set up, how stringentthe quality assurance there is compared to a "conventional" dairy orfeedlot, etc. I sorta had assumed that she knew all this (probably becauseshe grew up on a dairy farm) and it brought home the point to me that I mustalways be clear about being "picky" about our milk, just as well as weshould be, and about all the other things we ingest.-------------We visited a relative who's a dairyman on a conventional farm, and he madesome comments about the poor hygiene of the place. This made me realisethat the criteria should ideally apply to everything we consume, as you say,and especially what we prepare for others (I do a lot of cooking). At theend of the day for most of us there has to be a compromise, and I have totrust the people on the farmer's markets or at the organic food shop orwherever, believing that enough of our values overlap.----------------->>>I have never tried goat's milk!-----------------I expected it to be goaty, which previous (non organic, non raw) goats milkI had was. But it's really creamy and delicious! I only did some basicresearch, talking to the owner and reading their website. It would be greatto be able to support a local farmer, but I have contacted all the localorganic organsiations and no-one knows of any locally. I don't think thisis due to a fear/secrecy issue as I don't think there is one in the UKjudging from advertising on websites and farmer's markets - totally preparedto be wrong though!! - just that raw milk is very hard to find.
