Guest guest
Thanks for the info! I hear Monsanto is not doing so good now. They've had to cut back on staffing, their quarterly report to Wall Street was dismal and so forth! I can't help but CHEER at each setback that dratted company has! Good riddance! Sara Minnesota PS I'm sorry, my delete button just won't work on this! Argh! SR Monsanto Attacks "Hormone-Free" Milk Labels A small dairy farm in Maine, Oakhurst Dairy, that prides itself on using only hormone-free milk, and labels it’s packages with the message"Our farmers' pledge: no artificial growth hormones," is being sued by the agricultural biotech giant Monsanto. Monsanto claims that the farm’s label implies that their hormone-free milk is safer than milk from cows treated with recombinant bovine somatotropin, or rBST, a genetically engineered growth hormone given to dairy cows to make them produce more milk, and which is marketed by Monsanto. While some believe the synthetic bovine growth hormone could lead to premature puberty or even cancer. Monsanto asserts that the hormone is safe, but studies on the topic have come back inconclusive. Over 30 percent of U.S. dairy cows are injected with rBST, which causes the cows to produce about 25 percent more milk than they would otherwise. Time.com December 22, 2003 Wired News December 16, 2003 Dr. Mercola's Comment: Monsanto’s attack on this dairy farm is not surprising. Anything that threatens their bottom line, even a small farm’s attempt to inform consumers about the contents of their milk, will drive this $4.7-billion biotech company to take action. If this genetically engineered hormone is as safe as Monsanto claims, I don’t see why they would feel threatened by this small dairy’s labels. At any rate, I would certainly avoid consuming any genetically engineered substance, as their effects on humans are completely unknown, and the use of growth hormones in livestock has certainly NOT been proven safe, and there are no overriding benefits that would justify its risks. I do not recommend drinking pasteurized milk, however, even if it doesn’t contain hormones. This is because pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12, and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Raw milk is a completely different food than commercial milk. Just as raw eggs are far superior to cooked eggs, raw milk is superior to pasteurized milk, which has lost much of its healing potential. Sally Fallon has compiled a Web site that provides further information about this important food source, including where you can purchase raw milk. I highly recommend that you look into the benefits of raw milk further, and consider locating a regular source for it.
