Guest guest
My mother purchases some products from an Amish community (I believe in Indiana or possibly in Ohio) and until I had a source for free-range organic chicken, I would buy Amish chicken. I have to say I was very disappointed in some of the products she showed me the last time I visited my mother. She had granola that the second main ingredient was hydrogenated fat and then she had chicken broth powder that contained MSG. What are the Amish coming to? Just a warning that everything may not be as natural as you would expect in Amish country. Kathy Around there the Menonite and Amish use as many chemicals as other farmers. Gotta ask to find out who is doing what. Belinda
Guest guest
I guess that explains it, as disappointing as it is. . . Guest guest
Dear Kathy, Here in SW Wisconsin each Amish group have their own set of norms or values. Some use as many chemicals on their farms as the most " modern " conventional farmers. We have several different Amish groups in our area. Some groups only use organic practices by choice and they sell a lot of produce to the local organic wholesaler. The Amish have to get certified, inspected and have to follow the organic standards so they can sell to the organic wholesaler. It comes back to you have to ask. Just like Belinda said. Not all Amish are the same. > > >> In a message dated 12/22/03 4:31:10 PM Central Standard Time, >> realfoodie2003@y... writes: >> >> >>> My mother purchases some products from an Amish community (I believe > in >>> Indiana or possibly in Ohio) and until I had a source for free-range organic >>> >>> chicken, I would buy Amish chicken.
