Guest guest
Austin Autism Walk Dear Austin Autism Advocates - A special thank you to all of you that joining our 2005 Greater Austin Walk F.A.R. for NAAR planning meeting last week at the Macaroni Grill. We missed those of you that were unable to join us. We had a super meeting with a lot of great ideas flowing. The 2004 North Texas Walk Co-Chair Vandi Alba joined us to share her great fundraising ideas and enthusiasm for raising funds for autism research. Vandi really enjoyed meeting our super Austin area advocates. She was tremendously encouraged by the unified front the Austin autism community has not only for our NAAR fundraiser but for autism awareness over all. Just a reminder to each of you to please be sure and put our Kick-Off Luncheon on Friday, January 7, 2005, on your calendars. The Kick-Off Luncheon is going to be held at the Renaissance Hotel (Located at 9721 Arboretum Blvd) from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. This is the single most important event we will have as far as team recruitment and fundraising go for our 2005 Greater Austin walk. The general purpose of the luncheon is to educate, communicate and motivate potential team captains for the Walk F.A.R. for NAAR. The primary purpose of the luncheon is to recruit the attendees to serve as team captains responsible for building large teams of pledged walkers from their families, companies, churches and autism related organizations. As you all know, this event will set the tone for our walk. (If you are not sure if the NAAR office has your mailing address, please hit me with it, so I can get you an invite in the mail.) The luncheon is free, but we ask everyone to reserve a seat. In an effort to be cost effective, we will hold a small silent auction during the check-in and registration time (about 15 minutes) in an effort combat some of the luncheon cost. Thank you all for your donation of time, energy and funds to encourage autism research. Without your help, it would be impossible to make a difference in the world of autism research. Together we will successfully raise funds locally, to fund research globally and find an answer to this devastating disorder. I hope you all have a blessed holiday! Guest guest
Austin Autism Walk Thanks to everyone that made it out to our Kick-Off Luncheon last Friday for the 2005 Greater Austin Walk F.A.R. for NAAR. We had a wonderful event with very inspiring speeches from our 2005 Greater Austin Walk Chair Terrie Sharpe as well as the 2005 North Texas Walk Chair Barry Eggleston. Both of these parents really brought home the reason we must work together for autism awareness and to raise funds for research. Barry and Terrie - Thank you so much for sharing your stories. If anyone needs additional materials such as posters, brochures or videos, please let me know and I will drop those in the mail to you. If you were unable to attend the Kick-Off Luncheon, and would like promotional materials for the 2005 Greater Austin Walk F.A.R. for NAAR, please let me know. Additionally, if you have questions on fundraising, or getting your team registered, please let me know. The www.autismwalk.org/austin website is in the process of being revamped and may not be working exactly right for another few days. If you experience problems with the website, you can check back in about two days or fax your registration information to me here at the office () and I will get you signed up. I apologize for any problems with the website, however, the upgrade to our services will be well worth the problems in just a few short days. I have attached a basic explanation of the variety of types of teams a leader could create, as well as explanations on team captains and team members to possibly help with any questions along those lines. If you have additional questions, please let me know. I greatly appreciate and salute all of you for your dedication to finding answers to this puzzling disorder! Together we can make a difference. Guest guest
Austin Autism Walk Austin Autism Advocates! It is less than 48 hours to the inaugural Greater Austin Walk F.A.R. for NAAR at the DELL Diamond kicks-off. Remember walk registration and activities start at 9 am. The walk will kick-off promptly at 10 am. Thank you all for your help in promoting our big autism awareness event and research fundraiser. If you have not had a chance to pre-register for the Saturday, February 26, 2005, event please do so at www.autismwalk.org/austin. We already have 69 teams registered - more than 400 walkers have pre-registered. Saturday morning will be full of fun, and free food and festivities as well as a Resource Fair. The DELL Diamond has plenty of safe, free parking. The actual walk will be held on the concourse under cover - so the weather will not hamper the activities of the morning. The walk is simply a ½ mile loop. The DELL Diamond is very family friendly and is a great set up for strollers, wagons and wheelchairs. We do ask that you leave all dogs at home. I encourage each of you to join us for this important event. The autism community has a great opportunity to show a unified front at the Greater Austin walk in an effort to elevate awareness for autism spectrum disorders - all while we raise funds for autism research. I hope to see you all on Saturday!
