Guest guest
Hi Friends, Ever since young women started addressing me as Uncle, I realised that I had reached the mysterious phase in life called Mid Life. Only solace being that all my dear friends and batch mates were in the same boat , of course except Anurag Saxena of my batch ( he still looks a bacchu ). His wife, Mahima has to cope up with three teen agers in the house. But the truth is that it is not only mid life , we are very much in middle of mid life. I once read about this period on Nitin Gagane's wall " When friends treat you as a family and the family treats you as a friend " I re- looked at my life and found that though friends did treat me as a family , but the family was yet to find a friend in me. Until one day, not long back, I was sent Khichdi with cold coffee for my lunch(normally a packed lunch). Believe me it tasted really good. When I complimented my wife, Vinita for perfecting her culinary art of Khichdi making, she bounced back " It is Resoto, an Italian dish and not khichdi " I insisted that to me it still looked like khichdi in which some cheese has been added. I knew, she would come out with something like " You Haryanvi men will never come out of Kheer and Khichdi " But I was surprised when she told me that she was glad that I liked the preparation. She must have been in good mood I thought. Couple of days later, one evening she found Akub, our servant reluctantly sipping mausmi juice and the rightful owner of the juice , that is me, helping himself with a Patiala peg. So when she faced me , I had this half cooked sher ready " Roz meetha sharbat pilati ho, aur kadwi baate karti ho, Kabhi kadwa sharbat diya karo ,aur meethi baate bhi kar liya karo " ! I definitely expected it to be followed by by some kadwi kadwi baate, but I was again pleasantly disappointed.Next day when I reached home in the evening, I found my servant holding a tray with a glass of orange juice and a can of Beer. I could see a smile on Vinita's face as I reached for the orange juice. Has the family started treating me as a friend ?? Not bad !!!
