Guest guest
Shantel, Have your thyroid or blood sugar levels been checked recently? I ask this because I was exactly in your place 2 1/2 years ago. As it turned out I have a double wammy...both hypothyroid and hypoglycemic. These conditions tend to aggrivate each other and the symptoms are nearly the same in each condition. When your thyroid isn't working properly the body has a difficult time maintaining healthy, stable blood sugar levels. I used to sleep 9 - 12 hours per night (and yes, I had a very difficult time getting to sleep in the first place) and still feel so tired that I had to take a 1 - 2 hour nap during the day (sometimes twice). Once my thyroid was stable I still had problems with my blood sugar. I am beginning my third week with BFL, I have to say that it has been years since I have had this much energy! The eating plan of 6 mini meals combining protein and carbs is the best thing I've found for stableizing my blood sugar. If these have been checked and are OK, try taking a kava kava suppliment before bed each night. This has been really helpful to me on those nights when I am too jazzed to sleep (here lately, I get jazzed about the next mornings workout and can't sleep). Also, make sure you are getting your 8 hours each night. I know this is difficult for many people but it is really important for your body. Sleep is when your body regenerates itself. You wouldn't expect your car to run properly (if at all) on one quart of oil. You shouldn't expect your body to do the same. Take care. R. Guest guest
Shantel, I understand your frustration but you are not a failure. Do you plan your meals and workouts? If not, I would suggest that you plan everything, write it down and then do it. There are excel worksheets in the files section on this board that will help you keep track. For my 1st 12 weeks, I printed these sheets out and used them - it really did help. Each time you are tempted to eat something unauthorized on any day other than your free day, think about this: Nothing tastes as good as being in the best shape of my life feels. Make sure that you have your goals written out and read them daily. If you don't have your goals written out, go to the chapter in the book called " Crossing the Abyss " and follow the instructions. This is important. Remember, you are making promises to yourself - keep them. If you slip, don't beat yourself up and call yourself a failure. Learn from it and move on. Eating 5-6 meals a day is important. Once you plan your meals, this may be easier for you to do. Betalean helps me tremendously with the energy. I take my last 2 around 3:00pm and have no trouble getting to sleep. Instead of the Tylenol pm, try taking Calcium and Magnesium about 1 hour before bedtime. A physician friend told me about this and it works. He said that if you are not getting enough calcium, your muscles have a difficult time relaxing and it is more difficult to go to sleep. The physician who told me about this is a nutritional specialist and would rather use vitamins, minerals and supplements than OTC or prescription meds. With the calcium and magnesium, you won't have that hung-over feeling in the morning that you can with so many meds. I don't know about Tylenol pm, but if it has benadryl in it, it will help you sleep, but will prevent you from getting the rest that you need because you don't get into the REM sleep, from what I have read. Don't give up, this program will work for you. Many people don't see results until at least week 6. BTW, I started at 42.3% bodyfat, so I understand your desire to get rid of alot of fat. It WILL happen, but not overnight. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
Shantel, I would suggest seeing your doctor. They can run various tests to determine what is wrong. There are many different things that could be causing your sleep problems...allergies, sleep environment, not enough water, being female, stress, disorders, etc... My mother has sleep apnea. When sleeping, she would STOP BREATHING periodically thru-out the night, which in turn wakes her up. This problem was causing her to fall asleep thru-out the day. She decided to find out what was wrong when she fell asleep too many times during her drive to and from work! She now is using a 'machine' to help her breathe while sleeping. It forces air into her nose and lets her sleep 'normally'. April C1W6
