Hi and welcome Amy, you've come to a good place for support and caring. I'm

glad you found a good Pain Management Doc as they certainly make our live

easier. I have no info on your new drug but wish you good luck. Are you coming

to chat tomorrow night? If so, I'll see you there. Deb

Hi Amy,

My I suffer from extreme lower back, and severe

fibro pain. I stayed on hydro, until not only I became

concerned about my liver, in addition it I, like you

did not get the pain relief coverage I needed.

My Doctor then recommended Oxy, after hearing all

the bad press, I was hesitant to try this med, until

the pain just became to much. I am now on oxy, yet

also using the narco tabs for break thru pain. I did

try avinza, and in my case it made me a bit on the

nervous side.

Everyone is different, and if you are like I am, I

would just about give anything a try. My only concern

also is it is a 24 hr tab. Make sure first that you

have no reaction to morphine, before you take a time

release. It was a long 24 hrs for me to get it out of

my system. Remember also it's a new drug, and all the

docs a pushing it

Good Luck Dee

Hi Amy,

Welcome the group. The people here a wonderful, informative,

supportive and caring. I hope you find them as helpful and comforting

as I have.

You sound just like me. Our diagnoses are a little different - I have

a degenerated joint at L4-L5, a partially herniated disc at L2-L3 and

a congenital defect at T12-L1 (in which 2 vertebrae a partially fused

with a rudimentary disc inbetween). But I also have severe low back

pain. I have pain on the outer side of my right hip and radiating

down the leg into my foot, and tender spots on my right lowest rib.

Do you have any of these symptoms too?

I have had the same kind of experience with doctors - the first guy I

saw (a neurosurgeon) said that I would just have to adjust my life

around the limitations imposed by my back and get used to the pain.

My family doctor at the time agreed with him, and had nothing more to

suggest. Now, thank god, I am with a GP who is very caring and is

trying to actually do something about my back problems.

I am also seeing a rheumatologist/low back pain specialist at the

Spine Program at a hospital in the city. He wasn't very helpful,

but at least he's going to do something - I too am going to get an

epidural with corticosteroids, in Feb. or March. Have you been

told anything about it? I assume it is just a day-surgery procedure.

Is it like an epidural for pregnant ladies? Do your legs go numb?

Take care and keep in touch!
