We have been on a long journey as well and did most of the things you mention, soy, vegetarianism, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Hey one thing for everyone to keep in mind, (not directed specifically at you , just all of us) we might want to be careful on these lists about mentioning the name and location of our sources. Call me paranoid, but today's health departments can be aggressive. I wouldn't put it past some of them to unscrupulously join lists like this and lurk, reading the emails and prosecuting whomever they can discover. As a WAPF chapter leader, I have had some questionable phone calls asking about raw milk and I do not reveal my sources until I have checked out the customer pretty well. As far as the Amish go, all it would take for them to stop supplying people is one visit from a health department official to scare them. Word would spread in their community like wildfire and next time you came to get milk you would get " Nein! " Anyway just things to think about. If confidentiality is an issue, it is five minutes work to create yourself a Yahoo id and free email address and use it to access (or even create) the list. Everything can be done from a web browser rather than via email to a paid account, at the cost of a bit of speed and convenience. Or if you don't mind letting people see your email address but don't want them to know your real name, then adjust your Yahoo profile (or create a new one and associate it with this list) to provide minimal information about you, as long as your underlying email address doesn't too clearly identify you. But since *anyone* (even me) could do that, you have to assume anyone can get on this list, unless you close it off entirely which then prevents it from promoting real milk to the outside world. So you should adjust your own privacy settings accordingly. Oh, by the way, I'm new here, and haven't drunk any raw milk since I was a kid and rode my bike out of town to a local dairy in northwest Pennsylvania. I got here from Dom's Real Kefir Making list, and from there to the Weston A. Price site and there to here... Any place I could get some in St. Louis, Missouri? (And I'd have a hard time paying more than $5 a gallon even if it's worth it, since my job got offshored to India like so many of us who are not self-employed...) However I have one concern: if Janet should " warn " newcomers, they are not going to want to join this list and wonder what does Janet know that they don't know? That's why I've opined that Janet (and or Suze) should " approve " new members. As moderators, they can toggle it so that one wanting to join the list, must first email either one with an introductory letter, in order to get an " invite " or directly subscribed. The moderator can pass on the letter to the group. This would weed out anyone (or pretty much cut down) with evil intentions and puts the burden of discovery on us, and not the new list member having already trepidation at entering an " unknown " room. You can get in touch with your local chapter leader at www.realmilk.com. But yes, if you want to email someone privately that would be fine as well. And hopefully, the moderators of this group can check out new members who want to join and that would cut down on any deceptions. You CAN find raw milk, it's just a matter of trying, dearching, building relationships etc. And really, if some farmer feels fine and comfortable letting the list know they are a source of raw milk, that is fine with me. I just don't want to blab about someone who doesn't want to be blabbed about, know what I mean? Anyway, bottom line, don't let my post discourage you.
