Subject: Updates on Dr ML Sharma

Dr ML Sharma underwent an emergency coronary artery bypass graft surgery

yesterday evening. He has been shifted to the surgical ICU of the Care

Hospital, Hyderabad, following his operation.

Doctors caring fro Dr Sharma performed an urgent angiography when he

developed low blood pressure and required a mechanical device called

intra-aortic balloon pump to correct the mismatch between cardiac oxygen

demand and oxygen supply. The angiogram showed severe triple vessel disease

and poorly contracting left ventricle. The cardiac surgeon thought that

benefits of emergency bypass surgery are greater than continuing medical

therapy and therefore chose to do a beating heart surgery. He grafted four

arteries to bypass the lesions obstructing his coronary arteries.

Dr Sharma is doing well and we hope to get him back to Sevagram by next week

end.

You just can't beat this. I mean, Dr. ML Sharma, after beating all odds,

undergoes a beating heart surgery. And then finally his heart beats

normally. The disease beats a hasty retreat. Can anyone beat that?
