Guest guest
How much fat and carbs? I haven't seen it here in stores. Andyman > > I'm trying to figure out the best yogurt. Guest guest
We got the Brown Cow Farms fat free yogurt from the neighborhood co- op and I haven't seen it in any other stores. Its organic and upon just doing a search in google about the yogurt I was unable to find the nutrition information (I'll post it tonite when I get home) but it is HIGHLY recomended by many as one of the best yogurts on the market because it has superior texture as well as no sugar or artificial sweetners added. Here's a comparison list which unfortunately doesn't list the carb/sugar values: http://www.cspinet.org/nah/yogurt.htm -Yolanda > > > I'm trying to figure out the best yogurt. Guest guest
Thanks. That article was pretty informative. Interesting to note that some of the coffee flavored yogurts have caffeine while the cappuccino flavored do not. I was happy to see Dannon Fat-free on the list since it is the best I have tried. Also, for those of you that are lactose intolerant, yogurt is good news!!! You should have no problem with yogurt. The " live and active cultures " digest the lactose for you. Guest guest
I've never seen Yoplait Light (100% fat free)with 27 grams of carbs. Now the Original Yoplait (97% fat free) might have that much. I guess I'll check the next time I'm at the store, but most of the flavors I buy (Yoplait Light) are around 17 to 19 grams of carbs. Cheryl C. ---------------------------------------------------------- >Sonja & others - be careful with the yogurt - even though Bill mentions that he prefers Yoplait - the fat-free Yoplait contains like 27 grams of SUGAR - the Breyers Light has only 17. I was using the Yoplait until my trainer saw how much sugar is in it. >
Guest guest
As far as I know, no one makes a fat-free/sugar-free yogurt. Aren't the sugars in yogurt natural (lactose) ? I buy Yoplait fat-free (with the blue lids). It is sweetened with Aspartame and has fructose added (isn't that another natural sugar)? I don't worry about sugar from diary until about 4 weeks out from pics, then I cut out all diary and other natural sugars. Guest guest
Terry I just received the new starter from dairy connection.i am going to make fresh yogurt with milk that i bought yesterday and see how that is. two days ago i took the liquid yogurt and left it out in a bowl covered. today i put it in cheesecloth and got almost a quart of whey and about 1/2 cup of cheese. added salt and it was delicious. i froze the whey. i have a gallon of milk that i bought on sat. sitting out the same way to see how that will be. that would not have the fermentation that the other had. really interesting. expensive to play this way but i guess any learning experience costs money. rhoda
Guest guest
Rhoda-- I got mine today too. Just came back from the Farm and have fresh milk and some cream. Just worked over the cream, so now I'm going to start the Yogurt. Those tiny bottles don't look like they'll do that much...lol. I see now what means by "just a pinch". VERY different form Natren or some of these other cultures. I figure 10 qts @Natren or 100gal @DCI. I realize I'm not going to get exactly that DCI yield (in my dreams....), but even so, the difference is tremendous. Money is $14.95 -vs- $14.70. That's the stunning part. We'll compare notes.... or tears...lol. --Terry Re: yogurt Terry I just received the new starter from dairy connection.i am going to make fresh yogurt with milk that i bought yesterday and see how that is. two days ago i took the liquid yogurt and left it out in a bowl covered. today i put it in cheesecloth and got almost a quart of whey and about 1/2 cup of cheese. added salt and it was delicious. i froze the whey. i have a gallon of milk that i bought on sat. sitting out the same way to see how that will be. that would not have the fermentation that the other had. really interesting. expensive to play this way but i guess any learning experience costs money. rhoda
