Couldn’t find Udo’s locally so I bought some Flax Oil

at GNC. This stuff tastes like

S$#% (regardless of what it says on the bottle!). Does it lose any effectiveness if mixed with other stuff,

like a Myoplex shake?

Yep, 2 tablespoons per day, just based on what I have read about

EFAs. I am uncertain whether you might need more being a man and (I

hope) weighing more than me. :)

Don't try the pills, you have to take about 473 of them per day to

equal the amount you get in a few tablespoons of the straight oil.

Okay, not 473, but it's a lot and not very cost effective.

Jen B. :)

A lot of others probably replied. EFA's are short shelf life oils

and taste good when fresh and rancid when not. Still you may not

care for the taste of fresh EFA's. Flax is an excellent source of

Omega 3 EFA's known also as Alpha Linolenic Acid. You also need

Omega 6's (Linoleic Acid) as both are Essential. Long term flax use

alone can put you into an Omega 6 deficiency. Udo's includes both

Linoleic and Alpha Linolenic Acid in about a 4:1 ratio as well as

some Omega 9 oil. Flora the manufacturer of Udo's Choice and Udo's

Flax can refer you to local suppliers. GNC carries Udo's in my

area. The problem is the cost as all choices locally are at $21+ and

http://www.nutritionmegastore.com was at about $13+ for the 17 oz.

size. I use it as oil on salads, straight from a spoon, in shakes

and in cottage cheese and yogurt. It would be great on a potato as

well. Avoid heat, so don't cook with it. Kit

I bought flax oil from Vitamin World and it tasted like S$#% too. I

then received my shipment of Flora's Flax oil from

Nutritionmegamarket and it barely tasted at all.

I think the flax oil from Vitamin World had gone bad.

Great article; thanks for posting the link. Erasmus knows what he's

talking about. I imagine, though, that one would do well to take his

particular oil blend. Barring that, if one wants to use flaxseed by

itself, consider that flaxseed isn't the best to take alone because

while it's a great source of omega 3 fatty acid, it also inhibits a

certain kind of enzyme that your body needs to *make use of* the

fatty acids, so you need to balance it out. Either borage or evening

primrose oil will balance out the flaxseed, and if I'm not mistaken

that balance does exist in Udo's blend.
