Guest guest
: You can contact the toll free number to SSA and they will send you a booklet (kinda serveral pages) you complete that and submit it, sometimes they'll do a phone interview so you don't have to go to the local SSA. The form booklet asks questions of work history, illnesses, doctor visits, hospital stays, medications, why you feel you can't work, daily limitations on living, personal hygeine, if you need help to bath etc, you'll have to have your orginal birth certificate to send in with it too. It can be a long drawn out process I got my approval on the first try back in 1992. There are organizations out there that will help you submit your claim at no cost to you. Check with your county department of human services or some hospitals have represenatives in the hospitals. It can be stressing and if you are turned down the first time you send in a reconsideration letter rebutting line by line why they said you can work, that's how we had to do my husbands he got his on the reconsideration letter. If after these 2 tries you are still denied then you get an attorney that knows or works with getting SSDI claims. As your next step will be a hearing with a SS judge. There is a 6 month waiting period kinda like a deductible (best way to describe it) like I was approved in May of 1992 and determined to be disable beginning Feb 1992 but I did not start getting a check untill Aug 1992. Then you have to wait 2 years before medicare becomes effective I did not get on medicare untill 1994. When you apply they should apply for both SSDI and SSI but you may not qualify for both or may just get one or the other. Hope this helps and does not confuse you any. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me at either of my emails below my name.
