Guest guest
Clean Sweep It happens every year. Just before Diwali, my wife gets hyperactive and with the help of the maid starts a cleanliness drive, the drive part means that it drives me out of my mind. I cautiously ask my wife, and married guys will agree with me that caution is of prime importance when asking anything of your wife, or for that matter anybody else's wife, " Why do we need to clean the house before Diwali, when we clean it every day? " My wife looks contemptuously at me, (wives always look that way at husbands asking stupid questions), and says, " Because we need to justify the Diwali bonus we will be paying to the maid. And also Goddess Laxmi will bless our house! " Then I realize the profoundness of these words. It applies to everything. is Diwali cleaning India of corruption. Advani is 'driving' in good governance. The UPA is cleaning out its stables and stocking up Tihar. Is any of this going to clean the house? Hardly! It will only justify the Diwali Bonus! A Political Clean Sweep? Laxmi? And in the process, if the cricket team gets 'washed out', or if the Sensex cleans your pocket out or if Inflation eats up all your money, don't worry; this Diwali you get a clean house with a bonus of wisdom. Even if Goddess Laxmi does not bless you! -Kishore Shah
