Guest guest
Hello friends, Few days back, I was invited to give a small talk at IIM, Ahmedabad on Challenges faced in managing a clinical lab. Though writing a letter or article seemed easy to me , a lecture or talk was never my forte. So I decided to decline the offer but my ziddi family would not let me do it. Tense, nervous and trembling , I started my talk but soon discovered that with ppt presentation things were a little easy. It was followed by discussions. It was a learning experience for me . IIM Ahemdabad has a huge and beautiful campus with abundant greenery . They are proud of their highly learned, recognized and dedicated faculty. The campus community addresses each other by the first name. People are motivated and a winning team's morale is noticeable. Their Management Development Program ( MDP ) is a hit . They charge upto 2 lacs for a three weeks training program for executives. This makes the Institute rich too. The place rightly deserves to be one of the best management schools in the world. Though I am proud of my Alma-mater, I would love to see it on the top, some day. So this made me think about the hurdles or challenges we face 1. Top class faculty : College should have the best faculty. Offer higher salary and incentives to retain the talent. Arrange guest lectures. I see many ex students on the top. They will be more than pleased to give a talk . 2. Clinical teaching material; At present there is dearth of teaching material especially for PG students . College must tie up with other tertiary care / specialized hospitals for this need. 3. Infrastructure : though well maintained as compared to govt medical colleges, up gradation is still needed. Additional air conditioned lecture halls and auditorium is needed. 4. Funds : No up gradation or change is possible until we have sufficient funds. Alternate sources of income may be looked into. Mid career professional refresher/ development programs or newer courses, Healthcare consultancy and many other non conventional methods should be tried. I am sure there would be many more suggestions and observations. Kindly come out with it so that it helps the decision makers in our Alma -mater to take the right recourse.
