Guest guest
Carol - Soma has always been my drug of choice for bedtime pain. It works on me where flexeril does not. Also, something few people know, Xanax increases the effectiveness of ibuprofin. I seriously doubt if Xanax has anything to do with your depression. It is most likely simple sleep deprivation, as that depletes your serotonin reserves big-time and almost always leads to depression after enough time. If it were me, and I didn't have access to serious narcotic painkiller, I'd go with: Soma - 350+ mg (muscle and brain relaxant) Xanax - whatever dosage you're at, preferable no more than 0.5 mg Ibuprofin - 400-600 mg Benedryl - 50-100 mg (deep sleep promotor) Melatonin - 3 mg (powdered capsule form) to promote sleep response HTH - Jan K HPUMOM1@... wrote: > From: HPUMOM1@... > > Has anyone tried Norgest forte? Guest guest
Carol, I tried Norgesic Forte when I had low back surgery in 1986. It put me into a severe depression including suicidal thoughts, and Skip had the doctor write a prescription for Flexeril. Norgesic did not work for me but it may for you. Watch for depression if you decide to go with it. I still get along well on Flexiril. Denny

I started taking Xanax about a month ago Saw you've gotten lost of notes on this but didn't see my old fave so thought I'd chime in. I always preferred Meprobamate myself. Puts me right down - boom! *If* you take it - be near bed. BTW, they dose it IV here in the ER's, oral ensuite - dont' have any idea what sort of doseages are available via Rx at a pharmacy. Usually just a few moments 'til lights out with IV, minutes with oral. Guest guest
Mickey, I take Skelaxin everyday for sciatica pain. I take 2 pills every night when I go to bed and sometimes during the day if things are bad. I tried going off of them, but my back pain and related hip pain was too much to bear. Guest guest
Hi , Regarding your " muscle relaxers " question, what you describe is how Valium made me feel. Trouble is I was hooked fast and getting off them was horrible. Prior to back surgery, I was given a new relaxer - Robaxin. Strong, hit the spot, but didn't have that 'groggy' or 'drunken' feeling. You might ask your doc about this one. Now my best " muscle relaxer " is to get in the pool, stretch and workout, perferably by myself, when I can turn the lights off and it becomes a very calming and peaceful environment where I can think and then even meditate while exercising. Guest guest
Hello Gretchen, When I have had severe lower back muscle spasms that produced disabling inflamation and pain, I used Robaxsil which was hard on the stomach. In the most recent years, 5 mg of Valium were used instead and I didn't have much problem with stopping it when not required maybe because of the low dosage which was just enough to prevent further damaging spasms. I look at Neurontin the same way for the night twitches that disturb sleep. EdM from NH
Guest guest
Hello , I take 400 mg of Skelaxin at 214# body weight to reduce sleep disturbances each night with no side effects the following day. EdM from NH
Guest guest
Hi Gretchen: I agree, exercise is the best muscle relaxer and the pool is my equipment of choice too. I haven't found a good public or club pool to use and it is already too cold in Arkansas to use my in-ground. I bought a Gazelle last week and finally got on it last night. It seemed to help with the pain I've been experiencing. So, I think I'll toss the meds and use the Gazelle, maybe some Pilate stretches and the hot tub until I start this myofascial release therapy. I'm thinking of trying to find a homeopathic dr since I usually don't want to take the meds convential dr's prescribe or have a weird reaction. Yesterday I felt so bad from the muscle relaxer that I was pretty much useless. I hate that feeling. Maybe I can find a natural supplement to get me thru the hard times. Guest guest
: I am glad that the zanaflex is working for you. I LOVE mine. I just don';t take it during the day as I use it to fall asleep with at night time...but If I hurt bad enough I will take it and then nap. I just wanted those people looking for a good muscle relaxer what to try. It is much better than flexeril or any of the others.
