Guest guest
I am a 36 y/o male with type 2 CMT ,newly disgnosed with it within the last 3 months. All my testing has been at the VA hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and they have spent lots of money on money and they can't do anymore they have said due to the cost of the testing. I was getting 10% disibility for each foot for bursitis/tendonitis/bone spurs/arthritis and they diagnosed me with the CMT but said it was hereditary. ok now the good news....since I starting having all my feet trouble while in the service and my medical records can proove it, and I have had about 14 surgeries on various things with my feet I just found out yesterday 11/14 that my compensation was increased up to 30% for each foot due to the CMT and I will not get 80% total I am so happy. I have not worked in nearly 5 years and I can't do much now because of the pain in both feet and my wife wants to leave me because she is sick of me complaining and being in pain all the time and getting worse with this disease so it came when I needed it most. I could not afford to be on my own only getting $520 a month, now it will be over $1,200 a month so it will be easier. I saw people writing about having your medical records and that made me want to write this and say I agree....without having mine, I would have never gotten an increase in my military benefits. I did apply for the Social Security before and was denied (but that was before I had the CMT), I did file an appeal and I should have my trial in 2007 and with this diagnosis I was told I would be able to get it with no problem as long as it is in my records (which it is). So I hope to be able to claim the Social Security disability also. Thanks to the group for all the support and the information that is always passed.
