, hi, yes, it is possible, depending on family ancestory/history

and their background - as more and more people meet, marry, and

procreate, but are unaware of their CMT or their family history, or,

in some countries, marry cousins. Think about it: someone with CMT 1A

(the most common type) marries and procreates with someone who has CMT

2E ( a different genetic mutation than 1A) Then, also in Recessive

types this is possible too.

Carol,

I am guessing you mean the difference between CMT 1 and 2 and while

there are many, to keep this simple (and we can go from there) in CMT

1, the myelin (that is the wrapping around the nerve) that is the

problem, whereas in CMT 2, it is the actually inside of the nerve that

is affected.

But remember, there is also CMT X, which, after CMT 1, is the second

most common form of CMT, with CMT 2 being the least most common.
