Guest guest
Can people actually have two types of CMT?
Guest guest
, hi, yes, it is possible, depending on family ancestory/history and their background - as more and more people meet, marry, and procreate, but are unaware of their CMT or their family history, or, in some countries, marry cousins. Think about it: someone with CMT 1A (the most common type) marries and procreates with someone who has CMT 2E ( a different genetic mutation than 1A) Then, also in Recessive types this is possible too. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
What are the differences between the two types of CMT? Carol
Guest guest
Carol, I am guessing you mean the difference between CMT 1 and 2 and while there are many, to keep this simple (and we can go from there) in CMT 1, the myelin (that is the wrapping around the nerve) that is the problem, whereas in CMT 2, it is the actually inside of the nerve that is affected. But remember, there is also CMT X, which, after CMT 1, is the second most common form of CMT, with CMT 2 being the least most common. If you want more particular info, I'll post a few links. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
OOHH Thank you, Years ago I had asked about CMT mutating into another form of CMT and was told no. This goes to show how much research has been done in the past 10 years.
