Guest guest
Welcome Pamela, thanks so much for introducing yourself. You do seem 'overloaded' on issues. I understand how difficult it is to prioritize and still life life. Since you mentioned you feel depressed, perhaps your doctor might be able to help you with an anti-depressant. I realize the SSDI process takes time - however, it IS possible to be approved for benefits in as little as 3 months, if your paperwork is all completed, and if all medical reports, tests, etc., are sent it and reviewed by a Disability Determination Analyst. If you file on-line, this too will help the process go faster. As for Medicare, yes, there is a 2 year wait after one has been awarded SSDI benefits. As for the foot surgery, I hope you will get several opinions from orthopedic foot surgeons who have previously operated on CMT feet. As for the alcohol, if you are using it as a method of controlling the pain (whether physical or emotional) it is not the best for the peripheral nerves; it can cause further worsening of symptoms. Some of our members have a glass of wine or a beer only with no problem and enjoy the social aspect. Your doctor is the best one to constlt about your pain, there are very effective medications especially made for neuropathic pain. Alcohol can be a very wicked foe - I know all too well - I hid from pain, I hid from life in alcohol, and it all turned against me in a very short time, plus it affected my CMT much worse. There came a time I could no longer go on and by the grace of God found better ways to manage foot pain and live life. Please be careful with alcohol. I hope you find to be a supportive force as you sort through your experiences. ~ Gretchen ( Founder and ELC)
