Guest guest
This was the first week back to school from Homebound for my student (we'll call her Karla for confidentiality purposes)with MDS. I'm not sure who was more nervous -- Karla, her mom, or me! She's doing VERY WELL. As a team, we made arrangements for someone to be with Karla at all times in case she has a seizure during the school day. She's felt so comfortable that she's been getting off the bus before one of us gets there and going straight to her locker! Aside from the worries about a seizure, she also has not yet learned her lock combination, so she ends up sitting by her locker waiting for me! Mom says Karla has not had a seizure since the doctor increased her medication to full strength, so she and I have discussed " weaning " Karla from the intense supports and moving her towards independence. We've got to work on that locker combination, but otherwise, I think she'll be able to be mostly independent! Her classroom teachers all say she's doing fine in class -- even in Algebra, which was our biggest worry! They probably think I'm overprotective! Thanks for letting me be a part of this group. I hope to learn more and more to help Karla.
