Guest guest
Here are some suggestions for books that can be read to kids or that kids can read themselves that concern people with Down syndrome or MDS. 's Big Day by Alden , who has Down syndrome, is in a regular second grade class. Follow his activities as the class waits for a special visitor. Albert Whitman & Comp. Way to Go, Rico is also from this company Taking Down Syndrome to School by Jenna Glatzer An engaging boy named Nick talks to other kids about what it is like to have Down syndrome. Guidance Channel, , 28 pages Views from Our Shoes by Meyer Siblings, ages 4-18, tell what is is like having a brother or sister with a disablility. 114 pages My Friend Isabelle by Eliza Woloson Two pre-school friends convey a subtle message of tolerance and acceptance. 28 pages. These last two book are from Woodbine House, , www.woodbinehouse.com. There is a free teacher's guide online for My Friend Isabelle. Woodbine House also publishes the 3 Russ books: Russ and the Appletree Surprise, Russ and the Firehouse, and Russ and the Almost Perfect Day, all by Russ' mother Janet Rickert. The book and the Russ books all feature great photographs of the kids just being themselves. Enjoy! Ann (Mom of (22, DS) and (20)
