Have any of your children been involved in the special olympics? Mahrya will be 8 in Oct. and from what the web site said this is when they can begin with this. Guest guest Posted August 21, 2004 Report Share Posted August 21, 2004 I am a strong supporter of Special Olympics!!. Nat is in his 2nd year of golf and is going to play basketball in the fall. He will be competing in the IL state golf tourney 9/11. He wil be the youngest there, but this doesn't matter to anyone. Before SO, Nat was more impulsive, unable to " cross the midline " , and lacked a peer group. He had " able " bodied friends, but not friends that understood why or didn't care if he was talking to his imaginary friends, because they were too!!!! This has been great, as he has been able to learn at his level how to play games that dad and siblings play. His basketball coach last year was mildly mentally retarted and was super for the team! We have been blessed with a great golf team. Last year one of our girls won gold in world competiton. Nat is far off from that right now, but working on it.
