Guest guest
Hi, my name is . I am 47 years old, and I live in South Carolina. I have suffered to varying degrees throughout my life with the problems associated with CMT. I have had 6 foot surgeries since the age of 13. Four of the surgeries were major and two were minor. The four majors included arch surgery on both feet, triple orthodesis on both ankles, and tendon work with pins in all 10 toes to correct hammer toe. The two minor surgeries were to remove the end joints on two toes that were reverting back to hammer toe. I have noticed that my calf muscles, which have been small all my life, are starting to waste away even more in the last couple of years. I have had problems with infections, blisters, and corns ever since I can remember. I have my good days with very little pain and some days with more pain than I care to discuss. I have also noticed a marked increase in back trouble since my last major surgery in 1994. Finding shoes that I can stand to wear for the whole day presents a problem also. My foot size does not help this issue much either. My shoe size is 6.5EEEE that makes shopping for off the shelf shoes virtually impossible. I have refused to let my problems to prevent me from living a full life so far. I snow ski, and golf as much as the pain threshold allows. I have two daughters 18 & 12 that appear to have been blessed with avoiding CMT. I am interested in discussing experiences with others who have dealt with this issue, and I am open to suggestions on how to better handle the changes that are occurring with this disease at this point and later in my life. So, I guess this is hello!
