Come to the Deep Energy Retrofits Seminar and the 2010 Maine Indoor Air Quality Conference * Attendance at the Deep Energy Retrofits seminar and the 2010 Maine Indoor Air Quality Conference won't just give you a great educational experience. Both programs have been pre-approved for a variety of professional accreditations. Participation in these programs is a great way to keep your license or certification up to date, plus there's no need for out-of-state travel to get to these top quality events. Approvals have been confirmed for mold remediation professionals, architects, BPI evaluators, codes officers, energy auditors, professional engineers, registered radon professionals, licensed pesticides applicators, and realtors. Approvals are still pending for industrial hygiensts (always approved), real estate appraisers, and respiratory therapists. Please contact the MIAQC at 626-8115 if you would like us to pre-approve the programs for another profession. Most other professions accept post-program certification with proof of attendance. *Our Scholarship Policy:* The Maine Indoor Air Quality Council charges registration fees because it is in our best interest as a small, nonprofit organization to do so. The registration fees not only support the cost of producing the conference, but also help support the Council for the coming year. However, the Council's mission is education, and the registration fees should NEVER be a barrier to attendance. Please contact Christy Crocker at 626-8115 if you need scholarship support to attend these programs. *Keynote! Jack Spengler on: " The Lingering Legacy of PCBs ( & Other Toxics) in Buildings " * 30 years after banning production of PCBs, these compounds linger in the paints, finishes, caulk, mortar, flooring, and electrical components of our buildings. Any building constructed between the 1940s and the 1970s--including schools, office buildings, homes, multi-family dwellings, and municipal buildings--is a prime candidate for the presence of PCB-laden materials. Professor Spengler, from Harvard University's School of Public health, will present recent research on PCBs ability to migrate to dust, adjacent materials, and soils, and how even if undistrubed, PCBs in building components can impact human health.
