Guest guest
I have to say that I agree with you I am tired of the whole " cure " thing to. It has turned this wonderful group upside down, we are on the brink of looseing our 2 most critical members all because of one stupid topic. We all know that this topic stirs controversy, yet people continue to not think before they post. If we know the subject if taboo then why bring it up and continue to hurt feelings. We are here for support, not to seperate people into classes of " People who believe there will be a cure " and the other group that says " There will be no cure anytime soon, just accept your child " . We face enough opposition in the schools, our doctors offices, our familys and all the ignorant people in this world. It is really sad that we are all taking it out on each other in this group. I love this group because we can normally post how we feel and rather others agree or not, we are still adults about it. I have left groups before because of this problem and I will do it again. We all want the best for our children, that I know for a fact. PLEASE lets all stop argueing amougts ourselves, that will do our children no good. Guest guest
i agree. people need to be more informed. i know i wasn't before having an autistic child. but i know when someone was different, not just being wild. sometimes people would say what a brat loud enough for us to hear, just cause Abby was crying or getting mad from being over stimulated. you just want to yell moron get a clue my child isn't a brat she is autistic! you cant cure a diabetic but med will help. To find thing to help with stomach problems or such is good. Or meds to help with allergies to foods is good. To give our kids and aadults med to make them into vegs. bad. just my 2 cents. Guest guest
I think we need to grow thicker skins and for those with the evil stares, flip em the bird, what do you care, you'll never see them again and your kid's having a good time so screw them. I'm sick of the crap from people who have no idea what our kids are going through. Rhonda Olivia's mom, again
Guest guest
abbys only not afraid of dogs that sit there quietly. if they bark thats it leash or no leash she scared. the barking hurts her ears too. it takes her a long time to warm up to a dog. my aunts dog is o.k. now cause the dog learned to wait and not act all execited. now abby loves the dog. i was bite in the face by a dog as a child and still am not afraid. eric

Guest guest
AMEN < Re: find a cure for ignorance!!!!! I also have to add to my ranting from my previous post. I am sooooo tired of people saying find a CURE. I am sorry to who this may upset or offend. THERE WILL NEVER BE A CURE FOR OUR CHILDREN WHO ARE AUTISTIC. The people I see who have a problem with my daughter and her autism are for example ---- When we go to the zoo and Ally is running around hyperactive soooo excited to see the animals. When she gets that excited she will do some head banging and screaming. Those people looking at us as if we are aliens. They have disgusted looks on thier face. As if we have no right to be in a public place. Should I keep her locked up in the house, so these people do not need to be disturbed?? I am disturbed at people saying find a cure. I think they should find a cure for themselves, and cure thier ignorance about what autism is. The fact that all autistc children are not alike, as all children and adults are not alike. We are all indiviuals with our own personalities despite what our, " disabilities " are. Has it crossed these peoples minds to find a way to accept autistic people into society??? My Ally has a lot to offer the world at any age. Because our children think and behave differnt does not mean they should be subjected to hateful looks and comments. Guest guest
Yes, there are sure some ignorant people in this world. My daughter has a huge phobia with dogs, which I have mentioned on this list before......the town we are currently in, which by the way, we are leaving Friday.......hip pip hoooray......seems to have this newage feeling that everything should be free, including their dogs, who never seem to be on leashes. Hannah is ok, if the dog is on a leash, but as soon as it isn’t, she screams and put tries to literally climb up my back. Many times now, I have had to either ask the person to please put the leash back on.....to this I get weird looks, as I am stupid or something, then I go one step further and tell them my child is autistic, and they still give me dumb looks, or looks of pity...i get so angry with them sometimes, but I end up saying I am sorry, but I can’t help if my child can’t stand unrestrained dogs!!!! I dread walking down the street with her now, incase there is one........but we persevere. I am certainly not going to keep Hannah at home all her life. This is why I persevere with mainstream school etc.........i could so easily do homeschool, but I won’t, not yet, as I want her to get out and try and be a part of society, no matter how small it might be, and I won’t let other people's " looks " deter me from this. Guest guest
I think it's crazy people don't keep their dogs on leashes. My MIL lives out in the country but the land goes in strips back behind the house, so they're close together. It makes me mad every time I take my kids there and there are dogs running loose. Know one knows if the dogs might turn on the kids and bite. I don't even trust my own dogs 100% and I've had them for 7 yrs, never had a problem. Still they are dogs! Guest guest
People dont work here in southern colorado much either. Reason...... ...welfare and medicaid pays far better then working. This one woman here has 5 kids and 4 were born on medicaid as they didnt get married until she was on her 5th so medicaid pay all. Now the husband works on the railroad and got a raise so now she is pg again with 6th to keep those welfare funds a coming. I dont know if Australia is like that. I know there stupid about the bears here and when I went to Rockhampton Australia in march 97 they were big environmentalist too. Well why dont they pull this environmentalist crap on vaccinations and crap given to children. Charlene -- RE: find a cure for ignorance!!!!! Don’t worry.........the council has threatened to fine people and everything, it is just the place we live in.........all free and easy, trees have spirits too didn’t ya know......oops, maybe I should not have said that.......i might start up an argument.....sorry if your of that nature...........that is another reason why we are moving out of this place, to a hard working place, where people don’t sit on the beach all day and refuse to work........after you see some of these people walking around town, you see why they don’t work...no one would want them, and that is a fact. Watch out or I will start ranting and raving.......better end this now.....lol CherylS

Guest guest
You cannot undue neurological damage to the brain. Once it is done it is done.. There is therapy to help overcome sensativities and learn language. From the studies I have read ASD is not just caused from one thing. Some say it is only vaccines. Not true my daughter was born autistic. It was apparent to me when she first looked at me coming out of the birth canal she was different. My overall point is ------- We as parents of children with autism and the adults in this group who themselves have ASD need to accept things the way they are and do the best we can to help our children or ourselves be the best that they can be. For me and Ally it is to help her with her anxiety and night terrors. To try to avoid the noises that hurt her ears or to help her better cope with what she has to. To help her speech progress to the point where she can express her needs and maybe even her feelings. To teach her how to be loving and affectionate and show her that life is about loving each other and interacting with other people in our families, communities and society in general. Autism is not cancer that is eating away at our childrens bodies. It cannot be removed by surgery. You cannot give them chemotherapy or radiation and kill the " disorder. " Ofcourse I wish that it could be a possibility. But, in my reality I choose to love and accept Ally the way she is and help her the best way I know how. We take things one day at a time and make the best of what we have in everyway, everyday in our lives. Guest guest
I remember once as a teen we were arguing over just what the middle finger meant. Some said it meant to go to " that hot place " and others said it was the F word. I said it must be the F word because when my parents used to do it to each other they always said " go to h*** " , so I suppose they were trying to cover all bases. Happy homes must be so wonderful to grow up in! Debi > It's an angry gesture using your middle finger only. Another way to symbolize go " F*** Yourself!!! Maybe someone else could explain it better. Guest guest
There is quite a bit of science out there to show we can re-route neural pathways around the damaged ones. If this were not true, we wouldn't work with stroke victims aggressively. I wouldn't call this a " cure " , but I would refer to it as " recovering " some functioning that was lost. Just my 2 cents worth, PennY > > > > > THERE WILL NEVER BE A CURE FOR OUR CHILDREN WHO ARE > > > AUTISTIC. > > > > > > > >
