My brother, about 64, was diagnosed as diabetic a few years ago. He

was somewhat overweight. He's been taking prescribed pills since

then, and has been quite active in various kinds of exercise

including running, swimming, jumping rope, bicycling.

He told me a few days ago that he'd heard the pills are known for

making it difficult to lose weight – and he's been experiencing

that. He lives in a small town, so I don't know how easily he could

find a good doctor.

I'm looking for suggestions. I'd think the best thing to do is

through diet and exercise, get off the pills. I told him I'd help

him do research on the drug over the internet – all I could think of

is to look on various discussion forums to see what people are saying

about it.

I just searched for " diabetes " on westonaprice.org, and found a

couple articles I can give him.

realmilk.com shows two goats' milk providers near him.

He told me he's taking Glipizide, the below is what I found so far.

Thanks.

Glucotrol Oral

Glipizide is an anti-diabetic drug (sulfonylurea-type) used along

with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar.

It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent

diabetes). It works by stimulating the release of your body's natural

insulin. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease,

strokes, kidney disease, blindness, and circulation problems, as well

as sexual function problems (impotence).
