Guest guest
Hi . > SO, what is " tocopherol " vs. just Vit E? The quick answer is that mixed Tocopherol (Coviax T-50) is 10% Vitamin E and the Vitamin E that you bought at the health food store seems to be 100% Vitamin E. Mixed Tocopherol is commonly used in cosmetics/toiletries as a antioxidant to prolong the shelf life of oils by preventing rancidity for a time. I doubt that using it directly on the skin would cause problems. If you search the archives under Tocopherol you will find a complete breakdown of what is in it. Is there anything I can use to > help heal up my peeling skin faster (am using cocoa, shea, and mango > butter blend right now)? Would this happen to my skin if I am using it > in a recipe? Your best bet is to see a dermatologist. I have heard of people getting some relief from similar products in the form of a lotion bar that would include beeswax, probably a oil, mixed tocopherol, as well as the butters you mention above. This would help create a barrier giving the body time to heal itself. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
OK, I searched the archives, tried the files, and I can't seem to find the info, so I'm going to bother you all I purchased some Vit E oil from the HF store, and it says " 100% pure Vit E " . Cool, I used it on my skin (one of my books says she does this), and it was really thick and hard to use. Also hard to measure for recipes. So, I got some from a supplier online. It only said Vit E on the website. When it came it has a lable " tocopherol " , and it is not as thick as the stuff from the store, and is darker. I have no idea what that really means. Being the dork that I am, I tried using that instead of the " 100% pure " stuff and it has made my skin very dry and flaky. NOW, I know that it was my own fault for not posting this question first and being an idoit for using it, but at least it was only on myself, so please don't tell me it was stupid, cause I know. SO, what is " tocopherol " vs. just Vit E? Is there anything I can use to help heal up my peeling skin faster (am using cocoa, shea, and mango butter blend right now)? Would this happen to my skin if I am using it in a recipe? Thanks!

There's also a Covi-ox T-50 calculator in the files area. I've seen alpha Tocopherol and Tocopheryl Acetate sold as Vitamin E. Alpha Tocopherol is an antioxidant. Tocopheryl Acetate is not an antioxidant but is converted into Tocopherol when ingested or applied to the skin. Vitamin E (alpha Tocopherol) is found in nature. Wheat Germ Oil and Soybean Oil are two sources that come to mind immediately. When found in nature, alpha Tocopherol is found with beta Tocopherol, gamma Tocopherol and delta Tocopherol. alpha, beta, gamma, and delta Tocopherol are all antioxidants. Covi-ox T-50 is a 50% alpha, beta, gamma, and delta Tocopherol and 50% vegetable oil. >I purchased some Vit E oil from the HF store, and it says " 100% pure Vit >E " . I really don't know, but I suspect that the Vitamin E that you are buying at the health food store and online is NOT pure Vitamin E. Its probably been cut with something else like vegetable oil. >NOW, I know that it was my own fault for not posting this question first >and being an idoit for using it, but at least it was only on myself, so >please don't tell me it was stupid, cause I know. > >SO, what is " tocopherol " vs. just Vit E? Is there anything I can use to >help heal up my peeling skin faster (am using cocoa, shea, and mango >butter blend right now)? That sound like a good idea. I'd also consider using something that has Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids). Evening Primrose Oil, Borage Oil and fish oils are good sources of Essential Fatty Acids. Evening Primrose Oil and Borage Oil are quite expensive. Soybean Oil and Canola Oil also contain good levels of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. >Would this happen to my skin if I am using it >in a recipe? Since we don't know what you actually purchased, it's really impossible to say. Maurice ------------------------ Maurice O.
