Hi Everyone,

I hope that nobody will take this the wrong way but I just must say it. I was so disappointed with the MTV show. I just cannot believe that most of the air time was given to and basically ended with her being happy and getting exactly what she wanted.

We all know that this really isn't what cosmetic surgery is all about. Our girl got what....3 minutes of air time????? I just couldn't believe this. I think that it should have focused on the negative and not so much the positive. My heart goes out to anyone that gets the surgery and becomes sick. When they showed her having difficulty walking down the steps I saw myself. I wanted to hear more about her and what she is doing to improve her health. Anyway, why on earth did the 22 year old need to have the huge breasts? To look like Carmen Electra??? I think that she was much more attractive than CE! I couldn't help but think what her life will be like in a few years???

Does anyone feel the same way as I do??? I just had to speak up and give my opinion.

I felt the same way. I kept waiting to hear more about the illnesses and treatments the girl on this list was going through. You’re right, the show focused on a happy ending and blew by the side affects of plastic surgery. But if you think about it, it’s the Extreme Makeover type shows that sell, not true reality.

My Dear Beth:

I agree with you. These shows just help the plastic surgeons to get rich. They just make me angry.

Love you....Lea

Dear Beth,

I can totally understand your disappointment. We would all like to

be vindicated and to see the world express as much shock over our

illness and suffering as we felt ourselves when we discovered the

truth about our implants. I know it would be great to see a little

more time spent on that in this show.

However, the reality is that a focus on illness and implant problems

is not sexy, it does not " sell " , and our culture is caught up in a

sick obsession with perfectionism and beauty through plastic

surgery. It is all a huge lie, but it is currently what makes alot

of people rich.

I try to look at MTV with gratitude....after all, they certainly

didn't have to tell any of our stories AT ALL. They could have just

blew us all off and made the show totally all about these girls

getting makeovers. When we realize that they have given us a chance

to speak out, and for the world to see that some women are suffering

as a result of implants, it is for me, a great big THANK YOU!!!!!

I would much rather see us getting whatever air time we are, however

small it is, than for us to remain silenced completely.

When viewed in this light, we must be thankful, and we must pray

that God uses this chance to tell our stories and reach the women

that need to hear in the ways that He does....one at a time.

Hopefully over time, we will be heard and acknowledged in larger

ways. The MTV crew, from what I hear from others, is totally on our

side and know that we have suffered greatly. They have been angels

to us!

Love,

Patty

Beth,

I think they did a good job of showing the misery of

the surgeries . . . the gal went in crying, came out

in pain, looked terrible . . . It was only the last

few minutes that showed her excited and going ahead

with her plans . . . they showed her boyfriend as

shallow, her as insecure and obsessing on her

appearance. They didn't show her getting any work

because of her surgery, just hoping to do so. There

are a lot of questions that weren't answered.

I know we read more into the program because of our

experience. But, they certainly didn't glamorize the

procedure. . . and, IMHO, the viewer is going to be

left with the question of where she will be in a few

years. The main change I would have hoped for was to

have given le more time to tell how she felt.

Considering what we've seen on TV before, I thought

they did a pretty good job.

Hugs,

Rogene

I hate to admit that I like watching Extreme Makeover as well. After all of this, I have had a change of heart. One thing that has really upset me is that they give people who really need braces, veneers. I wore braces for 26 months, just got them off last summer. The people who are getting veneers are trashing their natural teeth when what they really need is dental care. Ten years later they’ll regret their decision when ABC isn’t around to pay the dental bill for replacing all of those veneers. Just like breast implants, veneers don’t last a lifetime. I wonder if the kind dentist tells his patients that.

I agree with Beth. That is one of the reasons I chose not to do MTV. I didnt think the air time is not fair to say the least. Here we are going through all this madness, sickness, getting the implants out, ect, to spend three to four days telling our story , being followed by camera's at home and atwork, which can be quite stressful, only to have 5 min shown. And how is it being shown?

I agree PAtty, its good they show something, it realy is, the interest is there- it may be starting something, which is great news ! But it disapointing to say the least. Our full story has yet to be told in proper length. Im sorry, wanted to add my comments after hearing that Beth feels alone in this. Beth, Im right there with you. Love

To all of you Sweet Ladies:

I'm speaking from experience regarding this type of propaganda, sorry for being blunt. I was interviewed at our home for 11 hours by CBC. When it was all over I felt like I had really done something special. My husband helped me to prepare for this long interview, and when it was aired all I got was 3 minutes. They gave more time to two other women; one who loved her breast implants and the other was a tough cookie just giving her opinion. A few months ago the Globe and Mail interviewed me, but did not use my story, this really made me sad. They were asking me if I had watched The Swan which I had never seen. It seems like women who are older are being dismissed, yet we had our implants when we were young. Another thing that we have is tons of experience with women who have been damaged by these devices. CBC were wonderful and I'm thankful for the time that they gave me...we know that someone else was controlling what should be said on television.

Our darling Patty has been wonderful and she knows how to handle this type of adversity. I'm too angry to be balanced in my opinion because I have been abused by the press so much.

Love to all....Lea

I don't want to jump the gun on this, but if it will help any of you

be more encouraged, let me share with you something that I received

from a person that will remain anonymous.

They said,

" I am stunned to learn the depth of this problem. Somebody should do

a decent investigative documentary about it. That isn't what our

company does but I know some very talented women who might take it

on as an independent project. "

For those of you who know the power of prayer, may I encourage you

to pray for God to move mountains and get this potential independent

project off the ground? It would be a project such as this that

would allow our stories to be told in depth. Pray hard. It can

happen...

An investigative documentary? . . . wow! that would be

wonderful! . . . I hope she contacts the people she

knows and turns them onto our situation. I'm sure we

have plenty of women here to get them started!

I just wonder who would come out of the woodwork

trying to stop them? I can promise you, they will feel

the pressure!

Thank you Darling Patty:

I pray everyday for a miracle, the women's stories must be heard. There are

so many women who have literally lost everything because of these devices.

These women need to be vindicated and then and only then will they be able

to move forward with their lives. I have lost my children, my friends and my

independence. But the most important thing that I have lost is my spirit. I

feel as though no one needs me anymore except for our darling little

kittens. I'm crying again, I'm so broken. If only someone could put me back

together again.

Sorry, but I'm just being honest...Lea

Dear Lea,

I'm so sorry you're feeling so down! . . .

We need you! . . . You're inspiring and informing more

women that you will ever realize! You're very

important to us. Please know that!

And, you are gradually getting better . . . it takes

time, especially when one has been as sick as you have

been. Life will be good again!

Thank you Sweetheart:

I really am broken, but I must continue to do what I have been doing. I made

a promise when I wrote my story that my labour of love will continue.

I'm so glad that you are still in the group. Patty is still posting but

where did Lynda go because I miss her? I have all of her newsletters from

the seventies. Lori always faxed me everything. As you know Lori died and

all of her research was destroyed. We were so different, but we had a very

good friendship....I really miss her.

Sending you much love...Lea

Dearest Ladies:

At Christmas, we put an eight foot Christmas tree on our balcony off of our

bedroom. We call it our tree of hope, every night we turn the lights on and

we are sure that our neighbours think that we are mad. Tomorrow, we have to

take it down because it is dropping its needles. We hate to have to take it

down, but tomorrow is the first day of April. The lawyer across the street

is suing us for the people who sold us this home, they were friends. His

little boy loves to see our tree lit up and wants his Christmas lights on

too. The other night the lawyers lights were on, could this mean that he is

willing to settle the lawsuit??

Sending love and hope to all....Lea

Lea,

You've got to be kidding . . . the seller is suing the

buyer? . . . Insane! I can see the other way around,

but when he/she sold, they must have had a contract

that got them what they wanted or they wouldn't have
