Guest guest
Hey I explanted with Kolb on 3/2. I was happy to have a box of my favorite cereal to crunch on and lots of bottled water in the hotel room for the first 24 hours, in case I felt woozy while waiting for room service or something to be brought to me. Ask the hotel for extra pillows when you get there in case you don't want to recline all the way the first night. I rode in the back of a van two days after surgery (really 1 1/2 days) for 10 hours to get home. I did not feel like driving at all, but I still had those drains in. I think Melmed takes drains out after a day, whereas Kolb likes to leave them in longer. With the drains out I was able to drive with more comfort although I was still pretty sore (though not sore enough to take painkillers). That first night I had soups and potato chips (my surgery was long though-over 6 hours) and chocolate milk. I was just uncomfortable until I got the drains out after that. Good books and good stuff to watch on tv is the best recommendation, along with your favorite tea or soothing beverage. Have it on hand! My Pop who was with me had to run to the store to buy me a belt for my drains and pain pump to attach to, as I did not have one with me and didnt' want to wear my jeans the whole time. If you are having drains or pain pump you may want to consider some kind of belt, even if it is just one from your robe. Good luck! It is one of the best choices I ever made!!! Instead, I keep negotiating with myself to drive myself, and drive myself home 2 days post-op. Maybe I'll be able to?? I know to check my bag, and not carry a carry-on, as weight would affect me after the surgery. I usually carry on a bag the weight of a block of concrete! So, I'll just have one bag to check, and I know to pack lightly. I'll take only tops and jammies that button up in front. I've ordered a new support bra from www.title9sports.com. They have some tough-looking sports bras. I think their products are great. I'm not affiliated, just a customer...They rank their bras from one to five barbells, one being little support, and five guaranteeing no bounce.Anyway, my husband has been more loving to me this week. I am going with a nurse friend. Hubby and I work together, so he will manage the business while I fly to Dallas for surgery. Are there any common sense things I should know before or immediately after the surgery? Like what to do, what not to do? I did a search on the internet and found a PS site that had all the medicines to avoid in the 2 wks. prior to surgery. That I think I've got covered. Any suggestions appreciated; thanks to all who have answered my posts; you have been my inspiration and my courage to carry this through, and to seek my good health once again.....JOpinions expressed are NOT meant to take the place of advice given by licensed health care professionals. Guest guest
J, It sounds like you have all the bases covered! . . . You'll find Dr. Melmed a treat! . . . Unlike any doctor you've ever met! He'll put you at ease. If you go to his office, see if he still has the deer's rear end still mounted on his wall! . . . His assistant said they considered putting a pencil sharpener in it! Explant is (usually) sooooo much easier than implanting! Be sure to drink plenty of water. The amount of silicone in urine peaks at explant . . . so make as much as you can! I'm so glad your hubby is acting better! . . . I'll bet he's scared to death! Have you asked him to take you to the airport and pick you up? Hugs and prayers, Rogene
