Amnios were therefore initially offered to women over the age of 35 because at that age and beyond, the statistical chances of harm to the unborn baby equalled the statistical chance of having a baby with Ds. It is not simply a case of women under 35 " feeling safe " and declining amnios because they have a statistically lower chance of having a baby with genetic problems; unfortunately, the option of prenatal diagnosis and elective abortion has reduced the total number of pregnancies carried to term in women over 35, thus the current 84% in women under 35. Guest guest
Sherry... That might be interesting!! I'm with you, thinking that all those hormones must have some side affects... I took the pill for a while, and ended up preg with my son AFTER jared, ha...but with I wasn't taking them. What used to worry me years ago with was, that I had babies too close together, my son Tyler and are only 11 mos apart... I used to wonder if I didn't give my body enough time to heal itself from one pregnancy before having another. :::shrug::: ~~ANGEL~~ Mom to: , 11, Mosaic Down Syndrome/Hirschsprung's Disease Lance 16, Tyler 12, 9, Jaeda 8 and Shayne
Guest guest
Angel, I was just wondering if birth control plays a big part in this, since women now take birth control at a young age. I told Jess that maybe a poll should be taken on what type of birth control was used before the Down's pregnancy. I just can't help thinking that playing with those hormones does affect the babies. I too believed that older women had Down's babies, and that would be when hormons were getting goofy (LOL--words of expierence!!), so I think a poll on that would be really interesting to see. I was also a young mother, I had 3 by the time I was 20 (did not use hormone birth control until before Jess, she was my 4th at age 27) :<) Sherry, Mom to Jess, Grandma to 6mo MDS Jess... Guest guest
Jess, I am glad to know that I wasn't the only one who looked for information about this. I was on Lupron for six months and then got pg 7 months after my last shot. I looked for info linking Lupron and DS, but I didn't find any. Guest guest
Hi Angel...so many things to consider...I had 4 years after my first.... has MDS then Kirk right after ... no problems...I did however have low hormone count during my pregnancy with and needed supplements during the first trimester because they were afraid I may lose the baby without the extra hormones...Maybe the hormones play a role???
