Guest guest
I wonder are you really serious when you tell the patients all these diagnoses or are you really trying to have a lighter moment as a stress buster? Unfortunately it loses its meaning in the translation. " Pote dukhi " in Marathi means abd pain. But the second meaning is " Jealousy " . That has happened frequently with me. Once a lady came to me with chronic heaviness in lower abdomen. I diagnosed her cause as Fibroids in the uterus and told her in Marathi, " Bai, tumhi aatlya gaathiche aahat. " (In Marathi, literally translated, that means that you have inner tumours. However it is commonly used as a phrase indicating that the person is of a coniving or conspiring nature.) Another lady came with a complaint of recurrent abortions. I told her husband that " Tumchya baykochya potat kahi rahat nahi. " (In Marathi that literally translates into nothing stays in your wife's stomach. The phrase is commonly used to describe a person who can't keep a secret.) Kishore Shah 1974 RE: Introspection 2010 Dear Sir, That reminds me of a joke..... One day a guy went to his physician complaining about abdominal pain (pote dukhi......its a Marathi joke). After umpteen tests and medications the pain still persisted. The physician gave up and said.....there could be only one reason for your abdominal pain.......your neighbor got promoted!
