*****OK, nne, since there is a desire to insert " support " into

my own business ;-))) ....

A question for you, then: How did you arrive at the conclusion that

I " have never asked 4 questions and done the turnarounds " ?

Andy,

I'm referring to post 19972. You talked about it yourself dear.

*****Yes, I reread that post. I will ask you again: what was it in

what was written there that inspired the conclusion that I " have

never asked 4 questions and done the turnarounds " ?

Hey Andy,

Yes you typed:

*****Sacrilege of sacrileges! I've never *formally* done The Work.

Actually the whole novel you wrote gave me that conclusion.

You then go on to say that you do meditative inquiry. I don't want you

to do the Work for me...you can just keep doing what you're doing and

I'm happy for you.You say you have read the book, loved it but have not

done The Work.

I was just asking the question *Have you judged your neighbor (or me)

asked 4 questions yet and seen the turnarounds?* and a simple yes or

no be fine.

love (from your pain in the butt sister),

nne

Dear nne ~

First, you are patently NOT experienced as a 'pain in the butt' ~ not

at all. There is much pleasure in conversing with you.

Next: to answer your specific question,

*Have you judged your neighbor (or me) asked 4 questions yet and seen

the turnarounds?*

the answer would be a hesitant 'yes.' " Yes, " because the 4 questions

& turnarounds have been asked, answered, and understood. " Hesitant "

because the process was not done " formally " as in using paper and

pencil (or word processor). And yet much use was found in doing The

Work. Which is why I wrote in post 19972,

" ...'the work' that I alluded to, is not done with worksheet and the

4 questions/turnarounds, in discrete blocks of time, sitting down and

allocating mental resources to probe. It happens most of the time I

am awake (and, for all I know, while asleep). "

For me, 'the work' is an on-going inquiry, not reserved for only

times when there is upset or annoyance. Rather, it is an exploration

into the nature of thought (all thought, both the pleasant and

displeasing alike). It entails an examination into and observation

of how thought constantly creates images about ourselves and others,

how we impose a conceptual grid on reality and then mistake the map

for the territory itself. I have learned that most of the time we

are not even aware that thought is taking place. This 'work' is an

investigation, on more and more subtle levels, into this entire

system of thought. It does not have as its endgame the state of

always being enveloped by pleasant thoughts; that just not seem to be

possible. It does not really have any endgame...just a curiosity

seeking itself.

Dear Andy,

I disagree with you here...this is not about investigating the system

of thought...this is an undoing of your story. This is about the

integrity/marriage of your heart and mind. This is about finding

Andy, the man. This is an experience of love AND being enveloped by

pleasant thoughts/feelings . This is not just a curiosity seeking

itself. This is a way home. So dear, what is your story?

love,

nne (maybe an even bigger pain in the ass now)

Well, you're entitled to your own opinion and perceptions nne.

You see it as you see it. I wouldn't hold that dogma too tightly

though. It might bite ya. :-)))

The understanding that I work out of is that " The Work " (done either

formally or informally) is about exposing unconscious beliefs (all of

them, not just the ones that cause distress) to the clear light of

direct investigation. In other words, it is an inquiry into the

nature of thought, since beliefs are thoughts, usually held

unconsciously, until an inquiry exposes them. Sure, it is about

undoing one's (many) stories. They too are simply thought, and the

more that one witnesses them, the less valid, the more illusory they

are seen to be.

My comment about 'curiosity seeking itself' was not meant to

trivialize the inquiry. It is a very serious (although at times

humorous!) endeavor.

Regarding this being a way home. The understanding is that this has

always been home. It just may not have been seen as such. ;-)

I wonder if you feel at home....

Well, inquiry seems to have bit me on the butt and I am so grateful.

It is not for the weak or timid though. I am tired of being Buddha, or

Jesus or deMello realized...and I am happy to be nne realized.

I am reminded of something said to me at an intensive last year. I had

done a

worksheet on my boyfriend. My first statement was something about being

disappointed that he doesn't do the work and i wondered abour wording it

differently

for inquiry, such as " He should do the work. " But didn't go that way, she

simply

asked: " Can you absolutely know it's true that he doesn't do the work?... How

do you

know the questions aren't alive in him? " Hmmmmm. That gave me pause. And i

notice

she still recommends doing the work on paper because " it stops the mind cold, "

or

something like that.

Love,

Heidi
