Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have questions that I hope someone can answer or be able to point me in the right direction. My husband & I bought a mobile home in 5/2005 on a private mobile home park lot, it is a 1994 model and was bought new and owned by the same couple. They reported no water damages in the 10 yrs they owned it and there are no visable signs to make us think otherwise. We noticed when we bought the place that the water had a funny smell to it (like an aquarium) and so we purchased a water cooler and buy spring water to drink & cook with. But since then we have noticed that the water in the shower and bathroom sink (and occasionally the kitchen sink) has a very strong odor like moss or algae and sometimes it smells moldy when you walk by the bathroom. My husband checked the ceiling vent to make sure it goes to the outside and not into the insulation, he opened the crawl space that goes under the tub/shower and checked for mold growth and found none. Even the water going into the washing machine has that algae smell sometimes. My question is what could cause the odors and would it be from our pipes or possibly from the water that the park supplies? If it were a mold problem can it cause health problems like an autoimmune disease (chronic hives & angioedema) especially in someone who has asthma & allergies to molds to begin with? My husband and son don't have allergies but for the past few months I have noticed they both sneeze alot and get congested easily. Could this be caused by a mold problem or bad quality of water? We live in Maine so that gives you an idea of the type of weather & humidity we have. I hope someone has some ideas as to what we should do next. Guest guest
Here is a PDF file that has a list of labs that can test your tap water. Water can have all sorts of bad things in it, including lead, coliform bacteria, etc. That would be the first thing that I would do. http://www.epa.gov/Region1/eco/drinkwater/pdfs/ME-Private-Well-Testing-Brochure.\ pdf
