The drugs can typically only be marketed by the drug companies for the use for which the trials were initially done. However, many, many drugs are used for other conditions and you can read the literature and find references to such (i.e., things like " your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other conditions...). From what I understand, the use of CSM for neurotoxins has been approved by the FDA on the basis that it's not deemed to cause any unacceptable risk given how long it's been around. Personally, I'm much more worried about the off label use all the anti-depressants these other doctors were prescribing to me for the nerve pain and immune modulation. Personally, I hate taking prescription drugs, but CSM is one that I won't go without now. I would much prefer an alternative, herbal based solution - I and am looking into one that based upon the results my sister has had and will share that if it works for me also.
