Roseanne,

My understanding (I don't have the book in front of me right now) is that

peanuts are fairly high in amylose as they're legumes and not really nuts, thus

they are likely to elevate the cytokines and increase your inflammation. Real

nuts and seeds (like sesame, pumpkin) are okay on the diet. Also, peanuts are

generally bad for folks that have mold sensitivities as they are often

contaminated with aflatoxins. Note, that I'm not saying that everyone that is

ill from molds (due to the toxins) would have this problem, but I believe there

are quite a few that do.

Be well,

B

Uhhh! I`am not sure if this is a coincidence, but ever since I bought

this bag of peanuts it seems whenever I eat them my head pain gets

worse! Is this one of the no no`s of Dr. Shoemakers diet?

I think Dr. Shoemaker says no veggies from below the ground and no peanuts

but others are okay.

Peanuts always seem to have high aflatoxins. Not sure if it's the

way they are harvested or stored, but do a search on those two words

and you will probably not want to eat them again.

I think the roasting process, in oil (not dry roasted) tends to kill

the alfatoxins. But you'll read a ton of stuff from the search. If

you're eating dry roasted (supposedly have more mold), try the

roasted in oil. If you get a response from them two, you may just

have a sensitivity to peanuts. An IgG ELISA blood test will confirm.

(I love those honey roasted peanuts from Trader Joes, but can't eat

them right now because I'm on a yeast free diet and must avoid all

sugar! But it pains me each time I pass them in the store...)

P.S. my blood test said I could eat them....yeah!

The FDA has strict limits on the amount of aflatoxin in peanut butter. It

is extremely low. So, major brand peanut butters (Jif, Smuckers, Skippy,

Planters, etc.) all follow FDA guidelines, and even use specially designed

scanners to individually remove high aflatoxin peanuts before they go into

the mixers.

Interestingly, the mold contamination which forms aflatoxin turns peanuts

dark. While not all dark peanuts contain aflatoxin, not eating any dark

peanuts will pretty well eliminate peanut aflatoxin from your diet.
