Guest guest
Tu Shyam mera Saancha naam tera. My dear Shyam  I'm very much here; Alive and well & kicking!!!!!!  Yeah! I'm a little worn out after the duel (Against my nature-But, like, one has to fight back!)  I open up my mail equally avidly even when I'm in India but presently I am in Oman and have been sending my humble contributions and comments as and when I feel like commenting somewhere.  I beg to differ with u! we make our workplace more cosy so that the LOOOOOOONG hrs appear shorter! (No question of overstaying and doing somebody else share of the work!). Yeah if u like ur work u will do it to perfection (whenever u r doing it-if at all). I haven't read this book " FIRE UR BOSS " so cant really comment on it. BUT believe that if u like ur work u will probably do it equally well when u r getting somewhat lesser money. (may be important in private practice; PLUS we doctors always relish fame more-this doen't mean that we hate money or do not prefer money. I mean in a dinner we are eating two dishes-after gobbling them up one wud say that he relished fame more).  PLUS one thing- u LONG for whatever is missing in life-MIL JAAYE TOH MITTI HAI; KHO JAAYE TOH SONA HAI. Back in sevagram all students wud without fail wish their teachers; wud keep quiet if the teacher wud yell at them-BUT poor salaries. Here much better salaries, but students rarely, if ever, wish their teachers; Then too " Hi! 'Doctor " . So one tends to wonder whether they identify u as their teacher at all; then u miss India.  Yeah! If there is a job which pays u more for doing the same work ONE MUST GO FOR IT. This is ur 'Grahastha Dharma " . Reminds me of a small story- may I take the liberty-  Muni Durvaasa(known for his ill temper) was going to beg for 'bhiksha'. On the way one crow relieved himself and it fell  on the muni's head. He bacame very angry and gave one hard stare to the crow and the crow fell down burning. The muni became satisfied.  He reached the town, and went to one house-'bhikshaam dehi' he chanted. The house lady answered,' coming'. The muni waited, then again chanted,'Bhikshaam dehi'. Reply came,'coming'. Then a third time same thing happened. Just when he was getting EXTREMELY angry the house lady came out and gave him the bhiksha. The muni was MAD at her and asked her what took u so long, u dont know I am Durvaasa and can do anything.  The lady replied,'Munivar I am NOT a crow who u can burn with a simple angry stare " . Durvaasa was amazed (How cud this lady know that I have burnt a crow 20 mins back?). The lady told him, " For a grahastha the biggest duty is to look after his/her grahasthi. It is easier to take sanyaas; the people who take sanyaas are suppressing their sexual urges only(not anymore -u must be watching the TV)- BUT those who are in Grahastha ashram are obeying the system which the GOD has made and are making so many sacrifices each day. So my tapa is more than urs, and u can't burn me like an ordinary crow " .  So Shyam when you fish for abetter job NO GUILT COMPLEX; It is ur duty to provide better living conditions to ur 'Bhaarya' and 'santaan'.  Far as choosing the careers is concerned, at the risk of repetetion I wud say that a counsellor knows much better(especially after an aptitude test; The stipend which Shubhangi is getting NOW after one year, in her summer training - is better than what any intern gets after completing MBBS IN 4.5 years ). PLUS she is happy.  The only thing I wud say here if u have taken up a job-do it honestly as long as u are doing it BUT kick it as soon as u get a better opportunity, and why not? No employer is KIND and gives u the job when u are NOT deserving. In fact all employers want to underpay u, exploit u or ur problems.SO TIT FOR TAT(hope ur nickname is not TAT).  DDM'76 From: shyamkamath <shyamkamath@ hotmail.com> Subject: The Truth about Workplace-To, DDM and everyone To: mgimsyahoogroups (DOT) com Date: Thursday, 25 March, 2010, 2:58 PM  Hello Sirjee, Lagta hain...after the war of words,u have hung up ur boots for now..and we no longer get to read ur famous comments or those lines of inspiration, from the holy scriptures, holymen. Or probably,u r in India enjoying ur vacation...and getting ready to attend the Rewari MGIMS meet, soon. Just wanted to share with u and eveybody, what I came to realise after reading the book,FIRE YOUR BOSS.. It saYS, Don't live to Work,Live to Work. Bottom line.. Money is, The all important aspect and motivation to Work.!! Money may hot buy you happiness, but will help u to buy things which make u happy. Beckham, once said, when he was sad..he would go out and buy a Porsche!! Dont try to find Emotional,Spiritual ,Psychic pleasures from your workplace. That can be found at your home,in places of workship,in places of social gatherings etc etc. But making money should be the primary aim of the work. Dont make ur work place, cosy,by placing ur family pics on the desk..or a flower bouquet etc.. It will make you work longer hours, for less pay..and make your family life miserable. Should always be looking for a new job, althou we may have one,in our present setting, which is cosy. This is termed, not Job Hunting..but " Job Fishing " . Gives u better prospect to climb up..and take up offers at your own discretion and choice. Lastly, what I found very shocking was,the Authors advocating.. " Never follow ur teacher's advice,in choosing a career or a Job " . Seek a counsellor's advice instead. Bcos Academicians/ Teachers never work in real world. They lead a cocooned life,so are unaware of the outside world!!. My inference; Yes,all or many of the above many not be true for Medical related professionals, but in today's world, with so many non descript jobs geting handsomely paid, why should we, not accpt offers, which are more paying . Comments are welcome. Bye Shyam(84) The INTERNET now has a personality. YOURS! See your Yahoo! Homepage. http://in.yahoo. com/
Guest guest
Well said and explained,Sirjee.. Good to know,u r around..to enthrall, elighten us all,by ur Worldy wise emails. No,my nickname is not TAT... Infact, after reading ur enlightening email..I wanted to be like that Baitaal,of Vikramditya tales..we read in Chandamama comics..many yrs ago.. After, reading the last line..I wanted to instantly..comment. " Bahut sundar jawaab diya sirjee aapne... Aur Ab mein to chalaaa...(ha ha ha)... " On an ending note, the Western culture..as imbibed by the students in the Gulf, don't teach Indian form of teacher-student respect. I am told, many Profs, don't expect their subordinates to address them as Sir/Madame,either But like them being called by their First name,to cut out the Formal way of relationship!. Chalta hain. As the great men said, " Respect is to be earned by ur good and kind deeds not by Force.
