Dear Archana

I am '76 batch; cleared MS (Gen Surg.) in Dec. 85(Sevagram). U might have seen

me, and may be as a surgical post-graduate I may have(?) taken ur

clinics/?evening clinics.

Then, after a surgical residency at RML Hosp.,New Delhi, I pursued a teaching

career - Thanx to Dr Narang - He wanted one of his boys as a faculty there.

5 years in Swg 90-95, along with Dr Vinita - my better half- later Chhabra

Ma'am's darling, i was promoted to Reader; ditto my wife; left SWG in May 95.

Worked in a corporate Hosp(Non teaching) where I realised that I like my

students more than money so switched over to a private medical college at lesser

income.

Now in Oman Medical College, SOHAR as Prof. of Surgery(Oct.2008 onwards).

Dear Dr Mittal

Thanks for all the information. I can't seem to put a face to your name though I

am sure you would have taken our clinics- which I may have attended??

You seem to have progressed very well in your career.

The reason I asked about Oman was because I worked at Khoula Hospital in Muscat

from 1995-1997 as a lowly medical officer ( Anaesthetics) before moving to Uk

for fellowship etc. I am still in touch with a few friends I made there and so

wanted to know where you are based. When I left Oman in early 1997--I don't

think that Oman had a medical college.

It has obviously developed in the last 13 yrs.

Dear Archana

I fully well understand! With handsome devils like Santosh Prabhu, Danny Naik,

Nagesh Mandapaka, Zahid Zaffri etc. in Surgery; and heartthrob of u dont know

who- Nitin Gupte, I must admit that I was rather inconspicous.

Far as advancing in the career is concerned, as they say in Oman- " Allah kareem. "

Far as being a 'lowly' medical officer  is concerned: everybody starts his/her

career in a lowly position - I was once a lowly house surgeon, then a lowly Jr.

Registrar, then a lowly Registrar, then a lowly Sr. Registrar, then a lowly

Lecturer and so on and so forth; We get these positions according to our

qualifications and experience; I am proud that out of so many applicants(200 for

3 posts of Sr. Residents-at RML) I was the one selected. Remember in our trade

premature promotions may be suicidal/homicidal.(U are a 'lowly' somebody; U dont

know about something-U ask anybody senior to you; But u are a prematurely

promoted Professor; u dont know something- U cant ask anybody b'coz u urself r

the HOD).

I dont know, when did SQU hospital-a teaching hosp- came up but this OMC has

come up sometime in 1999-2000,b'coz only 2 batches have passed out and its a 7

year course here.

I guess u wud be knowing Amal Tandon '81(Rakesh Sethi-Faridabad)(who was like

a kid sister to me- her brother was my best friend in those days). Other

girls-Chandan Agrawal-my school teacher's daughter.  ?82/83. Then I  became

busy!!! in studies.

U haven't written about urself but probably MD/DA. and then FFARCS? Where r u

now?

If u consider it appropriate please write back.
